What Ink Is In Your New Micarta?

Recommended Posts

By now lots of folks have received the TWSBI Micarta we ordered on the first day they became available. I inked mine within five minutes of its arrival, using OMAS Sepia for the inaugural run because I thought it would match the color of the material. What is yours inked with?

Mine has Diamine orange which contrasts nicely with the brown shades of the Micarta!

I already love this thread.

Gettin' the Micarta groove vicariously!

I thought you'd like it - just hoping to push you over the edge, or at least farther down the slippery slope.

I can't wait to get my micarta and I have to say I'm digging that sepia ink.

I almost picked Omas Sepia. I had the bottle out and everything.

At the last minute, I changed my mind and filled my Micarta with Iroshizuku Tsukushi. I have the clipped version also with a broad nib. It writes really wonderfully, but is somewhat of a hard starter after sitting overnight. Once it gets going, though, it's really good!

Very nice photos! These are the first photos of the Micarta which have made me consider it.

I am really liking this pen. It is so different than any other pen I own.

Really, whats not to like??

Well, nothing really, except the envy one FPNer feels when another goes to a Pen Show and has a nibmeister work on his brand new Micarta, bragging about it before it even happens! Hrumph.

Have a great time and please share a writing sample after your nib work is complete.

As the rooster crows with joy at the coming dawn, I was not bragging, my brother. I was simply rejoicing! Now.... should I go for a "FatBoy", "butterline", "Angel Wings" or just a really swanky 1.1 stub grind? :roflmho:

I think that the tipping on your Micarta M nib will only allow a stub in the .5 to .7 width unless someone in Atlanta can retip it for you. I'd guess the B nib would only provide a stub of .7 to .9, at the widest. Like others, I look forward to the 1.1 (or even better, a 1.3) nib, if indeed they ever come. Have fun in Atlanta!

Well, shoot. If the TWSBI nib wont allow for at least a 1.1mm then perhasp it needs to reside in the "spare nibs" box awaiting a change of preferences. I wouldnt be adverse to swapping it out if Pendelton has something in the 1.1 to 1.3 range! Will post more after the show....

Ink, what ink? A beautiful pen, love the Micarta. I've had handgun grips for years made from micarta and they still look good 15-20 years later. The laminate process makes one tough material and attractive too. I'll bet this pen will look fresh in 75 years. Doesn't it just make you want to sit on a hillside in Tuscany and write? Got to explore this pen more. Oh, nice ink BTW.

JELL-O, IT'S WHATS FOR DINNER!

Just wondering how the Atlanta Pen Show went, and whether you had your Micarta stubbed.

Aurora black--sorry kinda boring.

One never has to apologize for using one the smoothest black inks know to man.

Nothing wrong with Aurora Black, ever.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
