Ooh, nice colour... Must resist temptation to pre-order one.

Does it come in broad or wider? I'll take three, then!

I passed on last years - what was it Aqua? Not skipping this one!

Yeah, last year's LE was Aquamarine; I just grabbed the last one at a local store about a month ago.

I'm so excited about this year's, I pre-ordered it already.

Aquamarine and Blue/Red to me were my faves

I love lime green, but its too valuable to use as a regular safari..ugh

The Ruby Red Al Star hasn't long been released in the UK, and it's -our- 2012 Limited Edition according to CultPens and Bureau Direct (who are brilliant by the way and cheap too.)

Bureau Direct tell me they expect the Apple Green Safari around the week of April 16th, and it is a Limited Edition also. BD wants about £13 or so for the Apple, which I think is actually rather good.

I like to collect the cheap, cheerful and colourful!

No, it's not a really a limited edition in the true sense. Lamy produces vast quantities of these "Fashion Colours" (as they are known internally within Lamy), albeit for a limited period. Sometimes they stay in the standard range (such as the gloss black Safari) or re-appear (like the white Safari).

In the context of fountain pens, a Limited Edition means, say, a couple of hundred of pens each carrying a unique serial number. I don't think a couple of hundred thousand Safaris can be called a limited edition.

Sorry if I'm beginning to sound like a stuck record ;).

FYI, Lamy has already began producing this year's Safari fashion colour. It was expected mid-April but the date was brought forward. Retailers should start receiving stock very soon.

Looks like the new colour is already out this year, it's show as in stock at The Writing Desk and my preorder for it from them has been shipped. Can't wait, have been buying to many pens...

My daughter, who thanks to the current almost unfunded education system, has horrible handwriting, was impressed with my pens and asked me to help her pick out a pen. I gave her a Varsity to get her startes Her favorite color is green and I was hoping that the green Safari would be available when she visits in May. Unfortunately she will be out of the country when it becomes available in June. So I'll have to figure another approach.

So I'll have to figure another approach.

Just do what I have done. Purchase it from the UK and you should have it within a week. (My package from The Writing Desk is in transit as I type.) Not sure what the US vs UK price is like, but the UK vs AUS price makes the UK option very attractive and I have no idea when it will officially be available in Australia......

Does anyone know when the Goulet's will have pre-orders open?

Got mine this week - but it has an awful scratchy nib. It is supposed to be a medium but when it does decide to write feels like an EF. My other Safaris (now sold) had all been excellent straight out of the box.

Did you buy from us? (Sorry if this seems an odd question but FPN names don't always translate into RL names). If so, pop the nib back and we'll replace it straight away. Sorry for the duff one.

Thank you for your order :).

For the benefit of potential customers across the Pond, the delivered price is approx US$25.20.

Thank you for reminding me about this trick - it has made the nib far more pleasant to use.

This Safari, I find, is a little less well-finished than earlier examples. Compared to one of the 2010 special editions, there are visible seams and the click when replacing the cap is dull and lifeless. The nib needed to be straightened too. Even the free cartridge was a little wonky and lacking polish. -_-

My good man, you must post a picture as is customary... :P

You can't display a toad in a fine restaurant like this! Why, the good folks here would go right off the feed!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
