S.t. Dupont Violet

Hello everyone, after reading a lot about ink reviews, it is now time for me to contribute. Hope you guys/girls like it.

P.S: The ink dries much faster on regular copy paper averaging at about 7 seconds to dry with a BB nib.

On the first 'bluish white' paper it is blue.

The second on yellow paper it is violet.

It is a shame, that inks died before I could get to them. Three Dupont inks died. One a blue black was highly rated by Sandy.

Andy 11 showed us another.

 to you too.

What a fabulous purple/violet! I wish ST Dupont inks were more readily available.

I am searching for the Blue/Black but no one has it. I found Turquoise but the bottle is like 20% full, it dried out! :(

I recently found Bleu nuit from Dupont. Not sure if this is the same as Blue-Black.

Very nice ink, although this deep shade doesn't do much for me.,..

Me too, darn it. I have their blue, black, turquoise and violet. The labels on my bottle caps and boxes all have double names (French/English). E.g. Violet/Purple, Noire/black etc and as I recall, the blue-black we're looking for (formerly designated Bleu nuit/blue-black) was unfortunately discontinued a long time ago.

Drat!

I saw their Sienna as well but it was dried out as well. So i bought the Black ink. I don't know why but their ink seems to dry out. Bad seal?!?!

Actually, i found a thread stating that the Night Blue is not the same as Blue-Black. Weird. I guess we will never know.

I'll buy that. Could you give us a link to that thread?

Thanks, Mike

Do you have a written sample of the Dupont Night Blue by any chance?

Me? Unfortunately no! All I've ever seen is the writing in the review link you have just posted. That brings back the old memories of how unsure many of us still are as to 'What is what?'. By that, I mean that apparently Dupont's Blei Nuit and Blue-Black were at one time two different inks, then later, they may have been fusioned into one.

  • 1 year later...

I once recieved a handwritten letter with a fantastic looking purple ink.

I called the sende to ask, whta ink he used.

It was ST Duponts violet / purple.

I orderd some cartridges right away for personal use and it became one of my favorit inks.

It is a beautiful violet and I have a bottle of it...not easy to find but if you do find it, its worth every cent. I've got all three current Dupont inks - Blue, Black and Violet and the Violet is definitely the pick of the bunch. The Blue looks very good in the bottle but somehow fades and becomes chalky once it dries on paper and the Black has a grey tone to it when it dries which I dislike. The Violet on the other hand is rich, almost like an Aubergine colour and stays that way when it dries.

Cheers

Hi Tritonus,

there is also another ink by S.T. Dupont called "BLEUE NUIT" that is a very beauftiful blue/black clour.

Definetly worth trying and by far much better than the regular blue called "BLEUE ROYAL".

Cheers

OOOO Thank you for sharing. I have some of the older turquoise. It is hard to find.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Forget Bleu Nuit. I have searched everywhere for it. Apparently, there are 2 versions of it too. The more saturated and one that is very very pale *bad batch*.

For now, ST Dupont violet is one of my favorite ink. I have so many ink that i stopped using it. Right now, i use MB Ink of Love for the holidays. ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
