Hello All

I am planning on adding a page to the Cross Townsend reviews. Enough has been written about the individual pens for me to add anything new there. What I plan to do is to post the pictures of all the current and past Townsends for reference, in one place. I plan to do the same for the nibs. This way we can have a full directory of the Townsends at one place for reference. If you like the idea, please contribute. And please also add your 'aye' or 'nay' vote up there.

I have the following:

  1. Medalist - Steel B Silver color
  2. Silver Sterling - steel B silver color
  3. 10K Gold - 14K gold M single tone
  4. Lapis Lazuli - 14K gold B single tone
  5. Tango (silver) - stell B silver color, and
  6. Custom - 14K gold M single tone

what I need is pictures of nibs:

  1. steel in gold color
  2. 2 tone 18 K gold
  3. single tone 18K gold
  4. single tone 18K gold with rhodium / platinum plating
  5. 14K 2 tone ? if there is one
  6. 14K single tone rhodium plated ? if there is one

in the pens I need pics of all models that I do not have (not listed above), especially:

  1. jade
  2. different color lacquer finishes (red blue, green, black etc)
  3. Tango silver cap and grey body
  4. Tango platinum
  5. Titanium
  6. Bamboo
  7. any that I do not know about are also welcome

The pictures may not be very large as they are going to be edited to make a set, but should ieally show the color well.

You could post the pics here, or to save space for the FPN, you can post them to me direct at jslallar@yahoo.com - a largely unused account so I will be grateful if at the same time you leave a message for me here, telling me that yuou have sent me a pic..

Hopeflly I'll make a full library of the Townsends and post them as a review page for reference, as all the models are never available at any given time for one to compare at any one site, not even at the cross.com.

If you know something special about a specific model or color do add a line, which I'll attach to the bottom of the pic as a caption and add the contributors name or FPN handle as you may choose.

These pens come in so many price ranges and varieties, it would help having a 'all in one' reference!

Be sure to include the mis-named Century 2000 pens, basic "stripper model" US-made Townsends that saw limited production, and fall under the radar of most people. I own four: two Med FPs, and two BPs.

Here's a two tone on my Townsend sterling silver next to the 150th anniversary

thanks Blade runner for the pics, beauties both of them. Townsend nibs are one of the most beautiful and comparable to the German nibs in quality and performance, as well as aesthetics.

Townsend nibs ought to be "comparable to" German nibs in quality and performance. Until recently they were German nibs.

Here's a single-tone 18K BB nib picture from the only Cross pen in my collection.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
