I can't believe I missed this back in October. I love heavy things, a special edition 850 made of steel would be great, but aluminium is good too.

IMO, very much better than all previous Twsbi designs; I have not bought one yet simply because of the design. This may be the turning point. I greatly prefer the quieter, more elegant look of this pen in both dark and light tones.

I too would like to hear more about dimensions, weight, ink capacity and nibs available. Congrats on the design work so far. Like plain nib and like uncoloured jewel.

Looks good.

One thing I'd like to suggest:
please, make clip design typical and unique, so that when pen is clipped in pocket, people would know what pen is it, by just looking the clip; as it is with Parker's arrow clip.

Won't be in my pen case; it will be in my shirt pocket.
Any plans for italic nib(s)?

Speedy I love your new design - no need to copy diamonds of the 540 -- your new design is an immediate sellout hit - I don't need another pen to look like the 530, 540 and roc 100 I already have - great work and can't wait to see it available for purchase

If it doesn't have the characteristic Diamond shape, don't call it the Diamond 850, but the SomethingElse 850. Maybe the IronMan 850?

This design is quite difficult to realize for mass production; mainly on two color barrel molding, If by metal it is even more difficult. So we went back to the drawing board, come out the new filling mechanism then we can put a cloth outside it. This cloth can be plastic, metal, and many possible materials, and first pen by this mechanism is IROC 850

Does anyone know which filling system will it be? Piston fill, Vacuum fill, C/C, etc?

Edited: my question refers to the Diamond 850 Metal.

The metal version of TWSBI Diamond has been discussed internally for some times. We intend to create an internal piston filling mechanism so we can wear different materials outside.

The first thought is to wear a metal body (like Iron Man? hahaha!)

VillersCotterets, thank you. Piston filler is a great option with the new ink window. I'll be glad if this new pen will have the same size of a 540 or bigger. The 540 size is almost the same of a Montblanc 146, Pelikan M800 and Visconti Homo Sapiens.

Elegant design. Proud to have an original-batch TWSBI, but will need this one, also.

Looks great, but one question which keeps me from fully enjoying the 530/540:

1) Are you going to make it so it can be used and balanced properly when POSTED?

I don't want to buy another pen that doesn't allow use (& balanced properly) when posted.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I like the V2.0 design better and I love the pure metal chrome logo on the crown. I like pens with simple and elegant designs. I like my Diamond 540 but always feel a bit awkward when the red logo sticking out of my shirt pocket, but again this is just me.

i am looking a this again and do not like the metal thread section, metal vs metal threads may cause corrosion for prolonged use.

Galvanic corrosion happens only if the two parts are made from dissimilar metals and are kept in contact in an electrolyte.

I don't think I seen this mentioned... but when is the 850 due to be released?

Also please don't put those pin striped looking engravings on the barrel :(

At least make a minimal black version

Wondering if I should hold out buying a Diamond 540 until this comes out...

When it will be ready.

My guess is at the end of 2012, maybe next Christmas.

This is idle speculation, but as long as people understand it is nothing more than idle speculation, I see no harm. I think this is the timeline I would expect for various TWSBI projects:

1) Vac 700 -- end of April for color, mid-May for clear
2) Mini -- August
3) Redesign of the 540 (possibly with 550 name?) to reflect the design changes shown on the TWSBI Facebook page like new clip, different section, and some parts redesigned to eliminate parts of the pen -- September
4) Redesign of the Micarta to include inner cap among any other changes -- this may depend on how well the first ones are selling, but I'd pencil it in for November.
5) Diamond 850 initial release -- February 2013

The wild card here for me is the anodized aluminum section version of the 540 that was getting thrown around with the 550 name. I really want those pens, but they seem to have nothing more than prototype status with TWSBI at this point.

TWSBI also has plenty of other things on the table like the retractable fountain pen, a retractable liquid ink highlighter, and a multipen at minimum based on what I know.

What's with the line bisecting the barrel and cap? Do they serve some function? They seem frivolous and, worse, disrupt the flow of the design.
