hi

Does anyone know anything about this awesome little pen. I picked a restored one up on ebay for coppers(very little to you non UK folks). I think its super cute, it draws ink up quickly and writes smoothly, it sounds scratchy but doesnt feel it. I know it was never a luxury pen and i am happy with it for the price, its much nicer than a parker vector or cheaper. Does anyone know when they were released, how much they cost etc etc? Mine has obviously been used, the plastic is pretty scratched but i like te used lived in look :-)

I can post photos if anyone is interested :-)

What a nice bulb filler. How does it write?

Really well :-) my pen was serviced before it was sold by somebody who has many of these pens. The nib is perfectly straight but rigid. It fills really easily and holds a tonne of ink compared to a cart or converter. The nib has no ink creep and this pen is really comfy to hold. Id say it out performs pens like lamy safari and parker jotter which cost more than this pen cost me. This pen is not scratchy like my other platignum but it cant compare to the smoothness of pens like my waterman hemisphere which is a beauty :-) id happilynuse this pen at work all day :-) hope this helps :-)

Hi Bekki

The pen is very similar to one of mine that I have been trying to identify for some time. The only markings on mine are 'made in england' plus a Warranted nib. my pen is in red vulcanite pattern.

Are you certain that yours is a Platignum Visi-ink?

I know that Platignum was an English company that made cheap to solid working pens. The comparison to Lamy sounds apt.

Mine is a visi ink.

On the barrell that covers the bulb filler squishy thing it says presented like this:

Platignum

Visi-ink

Pat app for

Made in england

Its only lightly engraved so it could wear off :-)

And then the nib says

Platignum first quality m

Hope this helps?

I can measure all its dimensions if that would help you?

I have another platignum and thats one of the cheaper ones but the visi ink is z much higher quality pen and i was looking for specific info abou it. Platignum pens are pretty horrendous most of the time imho. This is a little beauty and it beats the lamy imho :-)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
