Nos Eversharps From The 1950S W Flexy Nibs

This is our oldest batch of new old stock pens to date. We believe they are the late model 1952s Symphonys referred to as "Economy Gold Nib Set" in the Eversharp literature. We have two -- maybe two and a half -- models with paper rings indicating they are models 713 (plastic body and cap with gold plated trim) and 714 (plastic body and cap with steel or chrome plated trim). We have a 3rd gold plated model that didn't have a sticker, and it resembles model 713 except for the lack of a cap band (it has rings in the plastic instead).

These are rather plain pens to look at, but the 14k nib is just a knockout. Good and flexible (not wet noodle, but like the Skyline flexible nibs) and on the wet side. Here's the great part: we have them in XF, Fine, Medium, Broad and Stub. While supplies last of course.

We acquired quite a few of these in various colors and nib sizes, and we have selected the best ones to clean up and re-sac. We've got about a half dozen up on the web site now as we wait for our order of #16 sacs to arrive. If you don't see the nib/color combination you prefer, send us a note, and if possible we will make the pen up for you.

This is model 713 ..... gold plated clip, cap ring and lever.

This is model 714 .... the same pen with steel or chrome fittings.

Here's the unknown model, which we call a banded 713:

Here is what the nibs look like:

We will probably have some "seconds" which we will sell at a discount due to corrosion on the cap ring and/or lever. We also expect to be selling the nibs and nib assemblies separately.

To see these pens, please visit our Eversharp category.

Thanks!!

I got a Symphony from eBay. It is one of my favorite writers. I just ordered two!

Just because I got a stub and you didn't? :cloud9: Or because she finds such great NOS pens? With great service?

Oh, yeah, she's mean all right....

Lulz. No, it is mostly because she does this after every single pen I'm CERTAIN will be the last pen (that I get from her) to tempt me with. But noooooooooo, there's always another NOS to pull me in...

Glad to see some West Coast-ers jumping on these!

Once the ink sacs arrive I'll have a better sense of inventory and will probably start offering some seconds (ones that have some cap ring and/or lever pitting). I also believe I'll have another model from this line to offer in a few weeks, something a bit more upscale.

That's all I can say for the time being!

I held off as long as I could and then pulled the trigger on a fine, figuring if it's similar to my Namiki Falcon fine, I'll be happy. But I'm hoping for even more flex.

I also always wish there were writing samples for each size nib. I'm always shooting blind and sometimes the resulting pen is not what I had hoped for.

Hope there are some nib sales down the road for this pen, as promised. A stub might be nice. Or maybe all the available sizes! ;)

I've been told it's not as flexible as a Namiki Falcon, just to warn you. I don't know the Falcon myself, so I can't say from first hand experience. My only point of comparison were the Skyline flexible nibs, and vintage Watermans.

Test the flex before inking it, and you can always return it for a refund.

I'll try to get a writing sample posted on my web site as soon as I get enough sacs to ink up all the sizes. It won't be pretty or very graceful, but it might give you an idea of line variation.

Thanks

Thanks, Teri, I will try it out. If it isn't flexing enough can you hold a burgundy stub for me instead?

OMG! I thought: Can that be one of our pens??? I had to confirm we sold one to someone in Piscataway. (This M.M., right?)

You guys are gonna laugh when I post my writing sample ....nothing like the lovely sample posted by Gclef. I spent a few hours re-saccing, and I just need to take a sample of an XF and a medium and I'll post the results.

I've added a few more units to the inventory on the web site. Stubs are pretty much gone, at least the ones in black with gold trim (I'll have a few more blue/steel ones) but you can anticipate a large inventory of broads and fines, and a few dozen XFs and mediums. But it will take us a while to clean them up and re-sac them.

Here's something interesting: I inked up a broad for the first time and let out a squeal when I saw the line. It's not the typical writing-with-a-BB feel, it's got a nice cut so it's like a smaller more rounded stub. I'd love to hear feedback from someone who got a broad.

Thanks!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
