Proper Leather Case For 149?

Paul Raposo

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

I was out yesterday pricing MB branded leather cases for the 149, as none of the cases I have will fit the pen. The sales person at the local authorized MB jewellery store wasn't helpful, since he didn't know which one would fit, and they didn't have any cases in stock for me to try.

Which MB leather case will fit, and are there any other choices that I can look at? Doesn't really have to MB branded, just big enough to hold the 149. I'd prefer a single sleeve, or double sleeve--because I know I'll be buying a 146 eventually

Hi Paul.

just tried my MB146 and 149 in a Wancher calfskin leather case I recently purchased from Taizo (ebay seller Engeika)

They both fit nicely into the case, which is available in orange, chocolate and black. £18.10 + £3.02 shipping to UK. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Paul,

No problem at all. I have been using "MEISTERSTÜCK PEN POUCH" (Ident. No. 14309) for years. It accomodates 149 pen perfectly. The case also protects the pen when you drop it - the pen, of course, must be in the case. :roflmho: :roflmho: It happened several times to me and the pen survived it without any harm; maybe a few drops of ink in the cap. I strongly recommend it.

Thank you for the MB number and pic, Zdenek. I'm getting more info here, than I was able to find online.

I have a couple of florence cases and really like them. You can find them 2nd hand or NOS on eBay quite regularly - not sure if MB still supply new, don't think so.

Look at them here amongst others MB Pen cases

thanks

I'm also a fan of the single pen Florence Cases. Montblanc commissioned these leather cases from an Italian leather house in Florence - hence the name. They are rigid cigar tubes - so they protect against crushing better than a soft sided leather case. The Florence cases were available in smooth leather and in an embossed crocodile. They were available in black and in bordeaux. A MB 149 fits perfectly inside. These cases are no longer available as NOS from Montblanc (except possibly in Jakarta). They come up for auction on eBay occasionally, and usually sell between $100-$200.

I prefer the crocodile, because it shows less wear than the smooth leather. And of course I prefer black.

The Florence cases were also available as a double for two pens. The cases were designed to clip the pen's clip to the lip of the Florence case to prevent the pens from bumping against each other in the case - the double case has no divider partition. But I was always wary to clip my pen to the thick lip of the case for fear it might bend or spring the clip. I prefer the single Florence case.

A word of caution about Montblanc's new magnetic closure cases. These cases look great and function well, but if you carry the magnetic case in your pocket along with a wallet full of credit cards with magnetically encoded data strips, you may find your credit cards have been demagnetized and made useless. The single pen magnetic closure cases fit a 149 snugly without being to tight.

Actually, i find the Florence single case really nice. The 2 pen case is not so good because there is no divider.

I will try to post pictures tomorrow of my MB Soft Leather 2 pen case made of deerskin. It fits my MB 149 and my Mark Twain perfectly without being too lose nor tight!

My Meisterstuck Siena 2 pen case cannot fit the MB 149 and Mark Twain as easily. Too snug...

Check out Pelikan cases which are available in 1, 2 and 3-pen versions. Mottishaw and Binder are just two of many who sell them online.

Hi Paul:

you will find what I think is the best and more complete "review" of suitable MB cases for the 149 in an answer by Darius at the following page:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/110347-finding-a-pen-pouch-for-meisterstuck-149/page__p__1089172__hl__%2Bsoft+%2Bleather+%2Brange__fromsearch__1#entry1089172

I can only add to that that the three Siena models perfectly fit 1, 2 and 3 149s. The old Diaries and Notes (without MB star) fit two 149s, but not the more recent pouches of the same series. The soft range holds two 149s, and the two Westside models also fit one or two 2149s, but they are a bit tight.

Finally, the beautiful (and very expensive) Meisterstuck Selection (in brown, crocodile-printed), is the almost "perfect" companion for a 149.

Thanks for the link, Stephen. That looks like a hard case. That would be great for carrying around in pockets.

Thank you for the great write-up, yachtsilverswan. I almost always carry my pens securely in an inside pocket, but I can see that a hard case would be great for less secure carrying. I'm going to have to search eBay for these. And check the MB boutique in Toronto. They might have some NOS left over.

Do you find the deerskin softer than the usual leather used?

I have a Meisterstuck pouch which I carry my MB 146 and 149 in together but I have recently bought the following from John Lewis for the same purpose http://www.johnlewis.com/245194/Product.aspx

and it is a fraction of the price (£17 currently).

Great link and case, pansipotter, thank you.

Great link, with great reviews. Thank you, fpupulin. When I did a search of FPN, I didn't find that link. I most likely wasn't using the right words.

These are beautiful, Lorna, reminds me of Hermes leather; is there a divider between pens?

I have both the 2 pen case soft leather range and the siena case for 2 pens. The soft leather case is sooo soft. You know how deer skin leather is soft and it has like a cushion when you touch it. It is a very good product but also $$$.

If you want it, i can tell you where to get it for 40% less than retail price.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
