After my review of the five original Parker Penman inks there've been some questions about the Parker Penman that's currently being produced. I bought a couple of bottles to satisfy my own curiosity. The result of which you find here... ^_^

Thank you. I was one who tried to contribute to the other thread on the Penman (Ebony) Black and all is clearer now thanks to your nice photos and examples.

 

However, and there is always a however, I find my old Ebony is a dark solid black (close to Pelikan) and not the slightly see-through version I see in the link. Therefore, I think we have another example of how any single ink varies with the pen and paper it is used with.

 

Does the new Penman bottle have the little plastic well in it that the old ones have?

Hi Chris,

 

I think that there are probably differences between every different batch of the same ink. Maybe ageing has something to do with, too?

 

The new bottles have the little plastic reservoir in the neck of the bottle. Best invention since fountain pens, I think! ^_^

Does the box say where the new ink is made? I guess nobody has anybody idea why they're making only the black?

 

And thanks for emailing me the pdf files, Hypercamper.

 

One thing I don't get is the way people talk--and not just in this thread--about Pelikan Black as if that were some kind of a standard. Maybe _my_ Pelikan black is grayed out or something--because it looks gray in comparison to Noodler's Black, and even Pelikan Font India, which at one time I thought was as black as black could be--is not as black as Noodler's Black.

As far as I know only the black is currently in production... :blink:

I have a bottle (oblong) of the new Penman ink. I bought it in China and according to the box it is made by Parker in Shanghai.

 

It is pretty decent ink and I really like the bottle.

It may be age! I have had this ink for perhaps six or seven years or more now and it was old stock when I bought it. I have some unopened bottles too.

 

It is nice ink. Glad to see it back.

It apparently is a new version made only for the Far East Market and in Black until just now. It is included as part of the LE Duofold Cloisonne. I do notice that the bottle Parker UL Parker UK and has the same cap as the older version. I believe though somewhere I read the ink is produced for the Far East Market only and actually manafactured in China.

 

I believe it is available at PenGallery in Asia, but haven't seen anywhere here until I bought the LE recently. Incidentally, the case for the Cloisonne and packaging alone is something really spectacular.

Fascinating, I had no idea that Penman had been resurrected! B) Interesting that, with all of the stories about clogging,[*] the new Penman appears to be more saturated than the old, yet better-flowing, according to HyperCamper's write-up. That would seem to indicate a fairly thorough-going reformulation. :unsure: Anyway, the reincarnation looks like a good, solid black.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
