Hi Guys,

sorry for not showing out for a long time, we were working hard to get production issue resolve. mainly is the lacquering defective rate on the plastic cap, barrel... Good news is now we improved the output of good rate to 70 to 90%; defect still high, but we will keep trying to make it better; total wasted parts are over 14K now, more than good pen we sold.

the Vac700 parts are waiting when we get better confidence to put them into lacquering. these part are much more difficult on molding then 530, so we cannot afford to lost them too much on lacquering.

Well, the first batch 540 for US 400 pens (100 pcs for each nib size of B,M,F,EF) are passing through US custom now. I believe early next week you will see them on eBay and Amazon.

Below photo is a special version of Diamond 540

This is a limited edition called TWSBI Diamond 540 ROC100. It is for celebrating 100 years birthday of The Republic of China, which is now reside in Taiwan. The country founded by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen http://en.wikipedia....iki/Sun_Yat-sen

about ROC, pls refer http://en.wikipedia....#33775;民

The pen is not ready yet, but will come out in a few weeks later.

Now, let's see a side kick project. The TWSBI Micarta pen

The one you seen above is the mock up sample which I made 10 pcs for testing. After review with some local pen user, it was decided the length will increase to about the same as Duofold size. we are preparing to start the production in few weeks.

The ink bottle, we finally got abut 4,000 pcs of the bottle, but after inspection we maybe only get half of them satisfied. Will need to let the glass bottle supplier get used to our quality standard.

the bottles will be clean and packed to ship to Taipei, then put on metal cap... then ship out again to US... so, it still will take some time, but it is moving. (get your copy soon as they are available, because I am not sure when the next good batch be ready!roflmho.gif)

Oh! by the way, pls follow TWSBI on facebook

I am thinking to cut a hold on the note pad, put the pen in, ship as a package. Oh! this is a very good note pad made in Taiwan from a friend of my.

Whoo hoo! The 540 is coming soon to an online distributor near you!

Speedy, thanks for the update and for your meticulous standards. It seems this is a costly start-up for you but I think it will really pay off in the long run.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

That Micarta is the best looking thing I've seen come out of TWSBI yet. I hope the final versions will be rough and textured like these. Absolutely gorgeous!

No kidding. It should be nearly indestructible too.

Micarta one looks lovely, but I'm really not diggin' the c/c filler... :(

How about a Micarta piston filler! Probably to hard to make though... I know nothing about machining... hmm1.gif

I'm not a fan of the special edition one, but that's probably just me. To many colors for my tastes...

Great job speedy on all the work you're doing! thumbup.gif

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

What is the difference between the 530 and the 540? Is there enough of a difference to have both?

540 has modified piston mechanism and holds more ink.

I THINK it will have Bock instead of schmidt nib. I THINK the cap will go on easier. THere's been so much I don't remember all the details.

I LOVE that Micarta though. If you don't like c/c - you could make it an eyedropper, too. IT'S SO AWESOME!!

The Micarta prototype looks fascinating.

What made you turn to that material?

I had the impression that it could be difficult to work with, but maybe not . . . .

I had the impression that it could be difficult to work with, but maybe not . . . .

a friend in Japan gave me the idea. he was asking to turn a few micarta barrel for his personal use, but wasn't doing it for a year due to not sure of pen design....

until recently, so after testing, the result is not bad at all.

you can even minor modify the pen by yourself, by sending then polish, even use Nevia to get warm color feeling.

a very fun pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
