I took this shot on a recent lengthy business trip looking out the window of my room. As an aside, it's not HDR, but some careful exposure of Akko just after sunset, with the clouds lit from over the Mediterranean and the city lights starting to really illuminate the old walled city for the evening.

Amazing colors!

good you pointed out it's hot HDR. I'm not too sure I'm still convinced by it. I like what comes out from the original photo, not a composite.

Which camera you had?

It was shot with a Nikon D300 with a 70-200mm AFS/VR lens, stopped down to f/3.2 at ISO1000. Even with the enhanced ISO, I had to shoot on a tripod as the shutter speed was 1/15s. I did have to apply a fairly steep EV compensation of -1.3 to keep the old city lights from blowing, but this did then pull down the sky to give those rather dusky tones. There are so many different types of lights in the image that I just used a cloudy WB to keep the red colour of the sky.

 

FWIW, it's somewhat close to what my eye saw at that moment, but the human eye dynamic range and intrinsic brightness compensation is very different than a camera !

I can say why I think it's an interesting picture: Everyone's in their own pocket universe, and where some of the people are looking implies things outside of the frame (which can be interesting).

I love B&W pictures of people, portraits. There is a special quality about them that color won't do.

The good news is the Nikon has no light leaks.

and the expired slide film turned out pretty good too.

I love B&W pictures of people, portraits. There is a special quality about them that color won't do.

Try to add bit of "fill light" to the dragon. When you're in "Develop" module in LR, you will see at the top, just below the histogram, several icons. From left to right, the first one is the cropping tool; then you have the spot removal, the red-eye removal, etc. The last one is a brush, if you're familiarized with the process of "dogging-in", you can apply it to the dragon. That's what I did with the huge oak branch in my Biloxi photograph.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
