Sorry guys, haven't been on this site in a while so totally forgot when meetings happened. The fall brought a busier schedule for me with work and now school anyway. Let me know when the next one is and if I can, I will try to make it.

The act of putting pen to paper encourages pause for thought, this in turn makes us think more deeply about life, which helps us regain our equilibrium. Norbet Platt

I am guessing that it will be 14th October.

Black Rose, make sure you bring Jen, I will bring some pens for her to choose from, to encourage her.

Gooday Everyone,

I am a new member to the forum, and incredibly new to the hobby! If you lot wouldn't mind an utter beginner with horrible penmanship to come along, I'd love to come out and try to learn as much as possible from all of you as well as to experience all these wonderful instruments you talk about on here in person.

As far as what I can bring to the table, a whole lot of (pure)ignorance looking to be cured as well as a rather well used Muji fountain pen inked with Muji black ink.

Cheers

Hello, and welcome. We would be delighted to see you. Do not let your perceptions of your penmanship put you off. Between us we will replace you ignorance with unbridled enthusiasm. Looking forward to meeting you on 14th October. Do you know where to go?

She has a mandatory staff meeting she has to attend.

Looks like that is just as well. Life happened and so I will not be able to be there tomorrow, so I will bring Fester in in November.

So, who's coming tomorrow? I am having guests over for supper, and the wife informs me that cleaning up in anticipation of their arrival is mandatory... ;-)

While I can squeeze in a meeting, part was to see Scrawler, and several others appear unable to make it, so I'm wondering if I'd be missed...

Could we have a review of who's coming and whether they want to see me in particular (ie pen repairs / advice / etc.)?

Regards,

Gerry

I had hoped to make it but I have an assignment due for Monday. Yes, I am back in school and working full time makes it challenging. I'll try for next time. Too bad, I had pens to show and ink to share.

Cassandra and I were planning on being there.

ElykNordneg is off to school in Montreal or Toronto.

Anyone heard from Spiv?

Doesn't make sense to have a meeting with two or three people.

I agree. I didn't mean to discourage anyone, as I would rather attend a pen meeting than clean the bathroom, but like you said, it really doesn't make sense to have a meeting with only 2-3 people present.

Warm regards to all.

I guess I should have read this before driving to Ottawa. I guess after the sammiches, heather and I will go see a movie. I don't think I can make next Sunday, but if I can, I'll be sure to check this thread.

Sorry about that Spiv.

Are you going to be there a bit? I could come on down and join you for lunch. It would take about 20 minutesto get there. Hate to see a wasted trip. I found out I have an errand to run that will take me near the RA and I can just put it up on the schedule.

We've talked about this before, but I think we really need to really consider setting up some sort of an e-mail list so we can send out a notification to everyone interested to let them know of any meeting changes.

Thanks for the welcome! I am very interested in having that ignorance changed into unbridled enthusiasm, so far I've already managed to bump my pen count up to 3 and have a few different inks on the way as well! So that processes seems to have started already.

I sadly had to work this past weekend, at rather short notice, so I wasn't able to attend the now knowingly canceled meeting.

A question on next month, being that you meet on the second sunday of the month and the second sunday of next month is the 11th, will the meeting be held then? Or on an alternate date? If on the 11th, I will sadly have to push back my introduction to all of you until December as I have some traditions to follow on that sacred day.

Very much looking forward to meeting you all and learning as much as possible. I am a quiet lad, but very interested in this new found hobby, so quite excited to talk to some like minded hobbyists.

Three pens already? An obvious addict in waiting... LOL

There is some discussion of a meeting this coming Sunday in place of the missed one. Are you interested in it? If we hold it, then the 11th will likely be delayed also.

Regards,

Gerry

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
