Oberon Large Journal Covers

I recently posted this thread about fitting a webbie in an Oberon journal cover. I took the plunge and bought the Celtic Hounds cover in wine. I love the cover it is gorgeous! The wine color is gorgeous; its a just a tiny bit lighter than it appears in the photo on Oberon's site. This was perfect, because I was a bit concerned about the detail of the design showing up based on the picture on their site.

The cover comes with one journal refill that's blank, but has a lined guide sheet (like the Clairefontaine Triomphe) to keep your writing straight if needed. I haven't tried out the journal that came with the cover; its a bit too thick for me. I don't know how comfortable I would find it for writing for long periods of time. In the thread from the Pen and Paper Paraphernalia thread someone said that the journals from Oberon were kind of hit or miss on FP friendliness. Here's some photos (taken with my phone in poor lighting) with the Oberon journal in the cover.

Now the reason I got the cover was to put a webbie in, and the webbie fits very well in the cover! It actually fits a bit better than the original journal to me; much easier to have the webie lay flat than the original one. If you're looking for a high quality refillable leather journal cover for the webbie you might want to check out Oberon. Here's some pictures of the webbie in the cover.

Really helpful, thanks. We bought our son an Oberon cover for Christmas (the dragon version in red), and the journal that came with it is not very fountain pen friendly. Nice to know that the Webbies will work.

awesome cover, thanks for posting pics! :) i'd been following your other thread about webbies in Oberon covers, and after seeing yours in action, i'll have to pay a visit to the Oberon site soon....

it looks like the Oberon cover extends out about about a centimeter, maybe less, from the edge of the webbie-- is that accurate? (sorta hard for me to gauge exactly from the first photo). one of the hesitations i have about getting a webbie cover is that it'll stick out a lot and add significantly to the webbie's size :/

Currently inked:

Gosh, that is a lovely cover. I've just been to the Oberon website (I live in the UK, and hadn't heard of them before) and now I've fallen in love with one. It's great to know that if I do get one I know which FP friendly notebook will fit it well.

Thanks!

I'll measure it for you when I get home this evening. It is going to make it a bit larger.

It looks like the cover adds about 0.50cm taller than the webbie on the top and bottom, so 1.00cm more total on the height dimension. Hope it helps!

I'm so glad for you that this worked out! I'll be curious to know how you like it once you've been using it for a while. I have a small Oberon journal and while I think it's beautiful I haven't used it much because I find the button on the front cover makes it difficult - part of the whole "lying flat" issue. But, I've got their blank journal in it too, which might contribute to the problem...

I haven't used my Oberon journal yet. It was a Christmas gift from my husband. I am looking forward to a trip this coming July when I will visit England, Scotland and Ireland. I will be journaling everyday and thought this beautiful journal cover was a very thoughtful gift. I also received two additional blank journals. That is my favorite green Esterbrook J inked with Diamine Sherwood green, perfect for recording my impressions of the Emerald Isle.

I've been using the Oberon filled with my Webbie for about two weeks now. I have to say I really love it! I was afraid the button on the cover would make it uncomfortable to write on the LHS (left hand side), but it doesn't bother me at all. I use a desk or table to write in it, so I can't say anything for those who like to write on their lap. :cloud9:

Now if we could only find one to fit the large Habanas. Those guys are so oddly sized *sigh*. I guess it won't matter much anymore since they are going to off white paper too.

I also have several Oberon covers (from notebooks to one for my Nook). They are extremely high quality and I love the fsact that they are made by craftspeople instead of machines.

I also have one of the Celtic Hounds designs and it is really much nicer in person than the website.

Which size is the one you got the Large (6x9)or the XL (9x12)?

Thanks

Dave

I also have an Oberon journal cover, and I love it. I purchased the large size, 6x9, and it fits my Leuchtterm 1917. It's great to know that it will fit a Rhodia webbie, as well. I have the large journal in the "daffodils" design in the fern color. I also purchased a cover for my Kindle in the daVinci design. I have to say, they are both quite amazing. I also love the celtic hounds design, and would love to find a reason to purchase it in the future. =)

I also have a love for Oberon covers. I have several large and small journals as well as the XL journal, several moleskine covers (these are my favorites) and a couple for my Kindle 3. My favorite is the oak creek maple design, the butterfly and the wild roses design. For the Kindle the Hummingbird cover is beautiful. The only problem I've had is finding fillers that work well with the covers. Thanks for the thread

as it is very helpful!

I’ve been watching this thread for some time, and finally ordered an Oberon Large Leather Notebook Cover for my Rhodia Webbie.

The Oberon website says this cover works for notebooks in the 5.25 inches x 8.25 inches size, but the Rhodia Webbie measures about 5.5 inches x 8.27 inches. Only slightly larger, and I thought, after reading this thread, that the Rhodia would fit. Well, it does not. That quarter inch difference just doesn’t work. It does fit my Moleskine, so all is not lost.

Am I doing something wrong?

Contact the good folks at Oberon Design. They make two different covers in that size range. The NOTEBOOK covers fit the thinner Moleskines, and the JOURNAL covers which fit your Webbie and other thicker journals.

Or, you may consider making your own journals, using good paper, to fit your cover.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
