I remember this auction! Just thinking how lucky was the person who scored the Omas set....so it was you!

Definitely drool-worthy, I'm so envious. notworthy1.gif

Not clear here.....Did you buy the whole lot???????????Thanks.....PS....Beautiful

The auction was for offering a set of Omas celluloid collection with 7 pens. I didn't see how one can buy those pens individually.

Big congrats youstruckgold! :notworthy1:

Yup, the Paragon celluloids were being sold as a set. I dare say it's one of those once-in-a-lifetime buys. If only I had the money...although I did contemplate auctioning a kidney to raise funds.

Yes, this is a limited edition set, #23 of only 50 produced. THey were produced around 2006. There is also a difference between these pens and the regular paragons of the time.

The regular paragons looked like this:

http://gallery.me.com/youstruckgold/100250/CelluloidCollectionArcoDetailSection2/web.jpg?ver=12942363090001

with a two tone nib and no rings on the pen body.

The Paragon Collection pens look like this:

http://gallery.me.com/youstruckgold/100250/CelluloidCollectionArcoDetailSection1/web.jpg?ver=12942363120001

with a single tone nib and 3 bands on both the cap and barrel.

(photos and information from Nibs.com)

Much as I'd like to take Chris's offer of Crown, firstly I'm a democrat (in the true sense of the word) so couldn't accept a crown; secondly, there are others in this forum much more worthy of that accolade (or curse!)rolleyes.gif

Wow, nice haul.

By the way, in the first column the seller listed two broads nibs, which is incorrect. The one in the first column, 2d row (which looks like it's on the blue saffron) is actually the factory italic. Omas starts with a B and grinds to an Italic; but they don't put any tipping material on it. That's how I can tell that that one is the italic. If you want that nib to last, you won't use it very often.

The blue blue is the Blue Royale. The blue-and-gold blue is Saffron Blue.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
