Pay It Forward 2011

Carrie

Recommended Posts

Many of you will be familiar with the Pay It Forward scheme which has run for the last few years in the Sales forum. For 2011 Pay It Forward has a new home in the Writing Instruments forum, so different location, same idea.

Got anything you'd like to give away rather than sell? This is the place. Members who have pens or related items they'd like to pass on and give away will have a home here, should they want one. Please remember to state if you're only willing to ship the item within your own country. Members who claim stuff shouldn't feel that they need to have something of their own to pass on immediately, though. Even if it's years later, the magic should still work. It all comes back - eventually!

Time to "Pay Forward" two pens that I received via the 2010 PIF last month when I just got started with fountain pens.

1) Sheaffer's Gray Body student pen, cartridge filler. Half a cartridge in it and one bonus one.

2) Wing Sung 233 Aerometric (Parker 51 clone) tan body, someone put a CI grind on it however the nib is a bit scratchy. A great pen to try out the P51 Aero style or CI nibs.

-----

I would prefer to send these to users that are new to fountain pens as well since they were sent to me to get me started. However, the first person to PM "I'll take it" gets one or both, up to you.

Have a wonderfully Blessed 2011!

Edited to add: w00t! First PIF in the New Year!

Edited to add (two): Both are spoken for! Happy New Years everyone and May God Bless you!

Something for newbies, and something for "oldbies".

For the newbies, I have a Hero 100 fine nib fountain pen, and a sample vial of Noodlers Black Swan in Australian Roses. The vial is one from Goulet Pens and holds about 7ml. It's filled to the top so you'll get a drop more.

For the oldbies (and you know who you are), those of you who are always here contributing to the discussions with your knowledge and experiences, I have a sample vial of Sheaffer's Skrip 102 Persian Rose. Just please be someone who has never tried it before and has been wanting to.

To give people time to see the post, I'm adding a time frame.

First "I want it" AFTER 12 NOON TODAY, (eastern time) gets it.

Happy New Year everyone!

however, I Have tried Persian Rose.. at age 5.

so am ineligible.. I used to sneak it from my sisters stash.. < That was Not easy

I don't think that DQ's you. You were 5, a minor. You weren't a FP fanatic yet. And you couldn't really appreciate using it. As I see it, you're in the game!

I am not a newbie, but I have a student who is getting into fountain pens that I would love to pass this along to.

I want it :) I'd like the Black Swan because I know someone who is lusting after it, but I'm probably not eligible. And that Persian Rose sounds sooo exotic.

Here are a couple on pens and ink I don't use. I would like to give them to a newbie (preferably one who doesn't already have a FP) to FPs who is a student, since I'm a student too.

Batch 1:

Pen: Hero 800 (this is a stainless steel pen)

Ink: J Herbin Bouquet D'Antan (mostly full)

A mix of PR Shell PInk/Noodler's Nikita I made to get rid of the brownish tone in PRSP.

Paper: A 3.5x5.5 Piccadilly Black notebook (new and shrinkwrapped)

Batch 2:

Pen: Green Hero 100

Ink: PR Foam Green in a 2 oz Nalgene bottle (the PR lid cracked so I had to put it in something else)

J Herbin Vert Reseda (mostly full)

Paper: A 3.5x5.5 Piccadilly Black notebook (new and shrinkwrapped)

This batch is open to a newish student user, but would be really good for someone who already has a FP, since the pens aren't the best.

Batch 3:

Pen: Hero 240

Hero 001 (one of those 360 degree pens)

Ink: PR ORang Crush in a 2oz Nalgene bottle (The PR lid cracked)

PR Gray Flannel (mostly full)

5+mL sample of Noodler's Baystate Blue (I used it in the Hero 240 pen, but wanted a wider nib)

Paper: A 3.5x5.5 Piccadilly Black notebook (new and shrinkwrapped)

I won't change up the ink and pen combos, so please don't ask.

Okay now the rules:

Continental US only, because of shipping costs. Sorry International folks.

I'm going to set a timer on this, so everyone has a fair chance. Email me (there is a link to my email on my profile page) between 1pm EST and 3pm EST on Tuesday Jan 4, 2011 (if I need to extend it I will start a new post) with the following inforamation (please put something about FPN PIF in the subject line):

1) A number between 1 and 300 ( I will use a random number generator to select the three closest numbers then in order of the time the PM was received use number and then use number 2 to select who gets which batch)

2) Order of preference for the batch you want. Please use the numbers I did to identify them.

3) School you attend, major (if not in college just put junior high or high school), grade/year.

4) Why you want to try FPs, and what you will use the items for.

4) Shipping address.

5) I will also include a Post card that's stamped and addressed to me, and would like you to use your new pen/ink to write me a little note.

I'm using the random numbers, so that its not just the first people who get the items.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
