I see many great photos of pens and something else, but why not have that something else just be "Anything Else"? While I haven't dug out my pocket watches in a while, they need worked on, I do have other old skill items that I feel go with the art of fountain pens just as well.

Here is a pic of my Boker "Bicycle Race" straight razor I just got in, along with my Pilot Custom 74. Now I know it would be alot cooler having a fountain pen from around the 1880's to match this razor... but I have only moder FP's at the moment :)

I always think of straight razors when I think of fountain pens, I guess my dad's life style's embedded in my brain as what manliness is

On occasion, during the summer, when I feel like it, I do wear the vest and the hat. The pen would be in my bag. The watch is left at home. And I don't have much opportunity to wear a shirt that requires the cuff links any more.

But don't you see? The pen is mightier than the sword.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Not old as in pre-WWI, but definitely vintage.. 2 piece hollow celluloid buttons, Esterbrook, Rookwood.Obviously unedited, poor light-out of focus, just a fun shot, from a quick online game from long ago.

P2P, some of those buttons are :puddle: !

thanks bp.. the variety is endless-

they also serve to show that if you take good care of celluloid they survived for many bright, cheery years to come..

abuse it, and some delightful pieces are gone forever.. if you have time, google Marian Weeber, charming pieces!

I feel the same way about mine. I took it to a good watch place around here and their estimate ("if we can even find the parts!") was quite a bit more than I'd be willing to spend. My Elgin was my great-granddaddy's, who gave it to my granddad, who gave it to my mom and uncle to chew on as pups when they were teething. The chain's been lost to time but we do have a few photos of him wearing it in his late twenties and one in his older years, chain and watch in sight.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
