I am happy to say I have four pens inked and in rotation. I feel some guilt for having neglected them for a few months but such is life.

Good to be back in the swing of things.

Too many right now, and this probably isn't all of them.

Copper Esterbrook- Heart of Darkness

Lamy Studio- Van Gogh Midnight Blue

Lamy Safari- Noodler's Eternal Green

Lamy Al Star- Heart of Darkness

Laban Mento- Kiowa Pecan

Bexley Simplicity- Manuscript Brown

Pilot Knight- Mix of Kiowa PEcan and Black

78g Fine- Pelikan Blue Black

78g medium- Kiowa Pecan

78g Stub- 1670

Hero 616- Tienanmen

Hero 616- 1670

Hero 616- I forget. Maybe 1670

Hero Glorious 100- Bad Belted Kingfisher

reform 120- Baystate Blue

Reform 1745- La Coleur Royale

I need to go through and empty some of the duplicates here. The kiowa pecan/black mix isn't very good, so probably should do the knight. 1670 looks bad in the 616 (but great in the stub). Probably don't need 2 pens inked with kiowa pecan, etc etc.

Three pens came in today. number 23, 24 and 25...never got around to emptying out a few pens like planned.

A Böhler, a German Piston filler with a Pluma Super....must be Italian nib or Spainish. It is a butter smooth F-1 flexible nib. Waterman Florida Blue.

Böhler was one of the two brothers that owned Osmia, who pulled out in 1938 as Farber-Castell bought up enough stock to be on the board.

Eventually after the war, Farber-Castell bought up Osmia, for it's name and nib...and slowly faded Osmia out....too bad Farber-Castell also eventually faded out the great Osmia nib....or we'd all be collecting Farber-Castell's.

His brother didn't sell him Osmia nibs...so he got nibs from all over the place. I have three Böhler pens and each has a different nib.

It writes as pretty as it looks. My number one pen, an MB 234 1/2 Deluxe (52-55 only) KOB semi-flex suddenly has some serious completion. I can't wait until I try it with a shading ink.

A Kawaco-Mercedes. The Mercedes nib is F-1 flexible too, but it's a tad out of whack, the tines are a bit bowlegged, so it's a bit scratchy. MB Sepia.

A second blue stripped "Clipper" came in today too, from a friend here. Lamy Turquoise. I moved my lion headed Rupp F-1 nib on to it, returning the Rose striped Clipper it's semi-flex M nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
