Show Us A Photo Of A Journal Entry

Simonerodrigue, I love your autumn tree and pumpkin drawings! The former is just beautiful and the latter funny and sweet.

I have to say I admire all of you for your courage to post something so personal as a journal page. Although if I posted one, it'd be in a language only maybe 10 people here would understand...

Thanks! I just started sketching in my journal in the last month, and for ever good drawing there are about ten hideous ones.

The language issue might actually be a good reason *to* post some pictures, since not many people will be able to decipher the text itself.

I know, it's the same with me. But I try to bear in mind that drawing should be fun, not an accomplishment...

I actually meant that it shouldn't feel too personal to me to post a page of my journal, since only a dozen here would understand the text (but that dozen is screaming "I can read that! I can read that!" in my head). But it's true it'd be good to distract people's attention from the text to the whole.

I'm quite impressed! I really like your handwriting. Kinda reminds me of my dad's :P Like the pen too. I don't know why that would me a less commonly liked design, I think it looks great!

Wow that is amazing!!!

Great idea for a thread! It's nice to see what goes into other journals, and how. I fell out of the habit of journaling at the beginning of Summer, so I transcribed a poem to get back into it.

Here are a few pics of my journal. I wrote these on the subway, so my writing normally doesn't look exactly like that; when writing at a desk it tends to be more uniform and smaller, but the lurching of the subway on the way to work really changes the way I write.

It's actually Saguaro Wine, which I think is the same colour as Cactus Fruit but without the super lubricating properties. I find Saguaro Wine to be easily lubricating enough.

Ahhh yes you are right they are the same color except for the lubricating. I haven't tried Saguaro Wine, but I do have some Cactus Fruit Eel and I love the color!

Hi Joel... I'm just curious: what's the pen/nib combo you used here? I love the line variation in your text.

Wonderful entries everyone! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome topic. I'll look to see if I can contribute a scan. I hope more folks contribute too.

I feel a lot more like I did before than I do now.

  • 4 weeks later...

The nearest thing I have to a journal are my daily work notebooks - middle of the stack, Moleskine reporter (no trouble with the paper for me) - and the rest is all ephemeral; scraps of paper / odd notebooks. None but the work stuff survives very long. I don't even keep a diary. I wouldn't know what to put in a journal, and don't tend to have the time to copy things into it from other sources. One day maybe. I think for me a scarp book with odd things saved and pasted in could be the way, but it hasn't happened yet. Loved seeing others' stuff!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
