Show Us A Photo Of A Journal Entry

Blade Runner

Recommended Posts

It would be neat to see examples of journal entries (suitable for all audiences) to see different methods, handwriting, drawings, and the kind of journals people use.

Fun thread.

This pic is an old one, but as close as it gets to my natural writing, using a Namiki Falcon, though erroneously, a Sailor 1911M is posing in the picture!

I also often do illustrated entries in a pocket notebook, though not always using a fountain pen. This one does, though (again with a Namiki Falcon):

This is a photo of my journal some five years ago - but my style is the same - the journal was "Exacompta" made in France, bought from Pendemonium, with lined pages that took every pen and ink and nib combination I used. The pen in the picture is one of the LE Filcao Tukano pens, with silver barrel overlay and a lovely smooth medium nib.

Great idea for a thread! It's nice to see what goes into other journals, and how. I fell out of the habit of journaling at the beginning of Summer, so I transcribed a poem to get back into it.

Thanks! :happyberet: It's fun to leaf through it, and a welcome escape from grad school work to write in it. May we see yours?

@fifthblackbird - OUTSTANDING I wish my handwriting even came close to that... what pen/nib was that done with?

Here is a shot of my humble little moleskin journal with the first page of it's latest entry...

http://mark.intervex.net/fpn/images/journal_1.jpg

The pen is a Regal "Elizabeth" fountain pen, a pretty good writer with a nice heavy solid metal barrel... (looks a bit like a knock-off of a Montblanc Marcel Proust) It was a cheap eBay find, $23 including shipping, brand new, with 3 carts and a converter. Ink used is Bethge No. 5 (a private label by J. Herbin)

Currently Inked:

Montegrappa Extra 1930 Shiny Lines "Dove" L.E. (05/80) - Montblanc Permanent Grey (90yr Anniversary)

Pineider Arco - Monteverde Scotch Brown

Montblanc Rouge et Noir - Montblanc Bleu Nuit

Montblanc Meisterstuck Ultra Black - Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi

Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age Maxi - J. Herbin Lie de Thé

Notes about a book I am reading now. The notebook is not of high qualitiy, you can see some bleedthrough. I like to use at leat two colors.

PS: very nice topic, thank you!

Definitely not the best handwriting, but I'm getting much better from the chicken scratch I used to have.

This is the only "journal" I really keep. Every time I ink up a new pen I try to put my favorite quote into this journal with the date/pen used/nib size/ink used. It's a nice record of what inks look like in certain pens and I can at least estimate what they will look like in other pens!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
