Pockets of my Jacket - what and how many?

On Wednesday I was off to London. I snatched a few pens for the trip. There was my Parker silver Cisele, the silver Sheaffer which looks like a Cisele, the gold-filled 1948.. Parker 51, my 1924 Parker Lucky Curve maxi duofold, a no-nonsense which I was thinking would make a good italic standard (it's a boring red thing), a Sheaffer School standard, Parker 41 grey thing (it's leaking and I need to re-seal the sac), the Sheaffer 1000 1940s plunger filler with tubular nib - it's a red strip and I love it though the cap does slide sometimes - and its pencil friend - and a couple of others. Am I the only nutter who looks like I'm offering cheap merchandise from the inside of my jacket - what do you take with you in your clothing? Do you insure your equipment? I'm interested because I bored 4 people stiff at the meeting I was at and am proud of my pen knowledge and couldnt' give a whatsit.

Regards all

I think two pens in a pocket is quite enough --- I cheat though by carrying a Fisher ``bullet'' space pen (black ink) in my pants pocket in addition to the Rotring Quattro (blue, red, orange under/highlighter and 0.5mm pencil) and fountain pen (usually brown ink, usually an italic nib, usually an Esterbrook).

My leather writing portfolio has a pen holder w/ a fine point black marker.

In addition to that I carry a small pouch in my laptop bag w/ a couple of Sakura Callipens, a Faber Castell #2 pencil w/ sharpener cap, a Pigma Micron technical pen and a brush pen, a Zebra multifunction stylus/pen and various other things.

Usually I have one or two pens on me when I have a jacket with inner-pockets. Usually just one fountain pen. (I have a mini-ballpoint pen keychain attached to my cellphone as well, hehe).

When I'm going to school, I have a fountain pen + rollerball in my inner pocket for quick access and a small pen-case in one of my other pockets. Always armed and ready

If you check out my past posts, you will see that several months ago I brought my Omas to school only to lose it (temporarily) and find it the next day. Lesson learned. I now carry a Lamy Safari and a Delta to school.

Also, I am very used to people looking at me as though I just landed from Mars when I begin to wax poetic about fountain pens. I usually just sit at meetings and sketch or doodle, leaving others to watch and wonder what it is I am writing with. I had some fun today, showing a class my Delta and a bottle of Noodler's ink (Orange). When I took the ink out of the box, they gasped in open mouthed wonder..it was very cute.

I travel for business a lot. Usually bring in my pocket one enormous Danitrio ebonite and perhaps my Parker Duofold Sr, and keep an old Montblanc 32 with stub nib in the briefcase. That's just the current rotation, but I usually have 2-3 fountain pens with me.

I started to count - just the one in my shirt pocket...

with another one - or two - in my jacket...

and another two -or three - in my briefcase...

plus a couple of ballpoints (nice ones) and a highligher (nice one) and a couple of pencils, 0.5 and 0.9mm, all matching one or other of the FPs.

But they are not all lined up in my pocket like soldiers on parade - that would look silly, wouldn't it? :roflmho:

Hmm maybe it is not the business papers that are weighing me down

I alwys take two pens in my pocket.Main pen is my trusted Omas Paragon and some cheap bic for back up if I will run out of ink.

Other than that the rest of them stay at home enjoying each others company.

A "51" in my jacket pocket, but then an English Gentlemans suit has a special single pen pocket that a good tailor will put in for you.

I then carry a two or three pen case with the backups, I need a choice of nibs and ink colour. Plus in the laptop bag, a few PaperMate Rubberstiks to give to the numb nuts who wants to borrow a pen and a couple of the company give away pens, (ball pens, but they do take a Parker Refill :D

If I take the three pen case then one slot will be a Parker Pencil.

And that is my regular carry, two pens will always be a "51" with Medium or Broad nibs and another "51" with a fine, the third FP will be whatever I have in the ritation, typically the last pen I bought that I am testing, today it is a Parker 65 Flighter.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
