Skyline Cap Rarity

Quote from the Pen Hero article about the Skyline Eversharp……" Presentation Gold-filled Cap - Caps have a gold filled overlay and have either radial (the most common pattern), or more rarely, longitudinal engraved lines." How often do these longitudinal lined caps show up?

I have a couple so not too rare, but I AM looking for a wheat pattern !

I have never seen a wheat pattern before. Sounds interesting, and expensive.

Yeah, Wheat is uncommon.

But the holy grail is one of the Sterling caps, and just in line after that, is the Stainless Steel. I have a Stainless, in 20 years of looking I have never even SEEN the supposed Sterling!

Sensitive Pen Restoration doesn't cost extra.

That means it will be on ebay the one night you don't look. I have found more pens listed incorrectly and got them for a song. Last month it was a set of Burgundy VACs listed as Golden Pearl and my bid of $92 won. Keep looking, it will find a way to your collection eventually.

Keep looking for the Sterling cap, and eventually you will find one. If its from a knowledgeable collector, though, it won't be cheap.

I finally found one about 2 years ago. Along the way I found 3 or 4 stainless caps, and every other variation.

I was going to start a "what pattern is this" thread but you all seem very knowledgeable, so, can you tell me what pattern this one is? I nope someone notices this post. The pen needs resaccing and the derby/ clip part is a bit loose but otherwise the pen looks good, I polished it a bit for this photo. The cap says "gold-filled" on it. And I paid $40 including shipping for it on ebay. I didn't have a Skyline and I really liked this cap. Thanks!

The pattern on that is called 'dart.' Very neat cap!

There's a silver cap for sale right now on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVERSHARP-SKYLINE-FOUNTAIN-PEN-BLACK-RESIN-SILVER-CAP-14K-585-BROAD-NIB-NEW-/281343971633?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4181685131

Too pricey for me, but looks verrrrry nice.

Since there is a chevron/dart pattern one up for sale for over $100, I think mine was a bargain. A trip to The Write Pen and off we go!

I can't even find a picture of the wheat pattern.

That is a new Silver cap model not an original Sterling Silver cap model which as Cliff already pointed out are quite rare

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
