Here's another. The guy says that it has 2 cracks, a bent nib, but he adds....

"to the best of my knowledge, it works well"

:roflmho: I'm surprised they didn't throw in, "Nothing a little whack from a hammer can't fix!"

Thanks for sharing, Tom :)

Here's my favorite eBay description of the day:

ebay item 130024253552: pen

It's short and to the point. Probably not a single bit of false advertising, either...

Astoundingly, someone is bidding on it. Hurry, only 7 minutes left.

Hmmm... seller has zero feedback, buyer has 3. A little feedback generation going on here? :

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Here is another one I found on a lot of Esterbrooks

"The pens all show general wear"

This is their idea of general wear

"The red pen has some deep grooves on the cap and some heavy nicks on the section. The green pen has a 1/8" (burn mark?) on the cap, and the bronze flat botom pen has some yellow paint spots as well a some heavy nicks on the bottom of the pen"

Well at least they are being honest in the description at some point...

How about those descriptions wherein it states that to the best of their knowledge it's in good shape and the photo shows one of the nib tines is broken.

I suppose that's better than one without the picture! Always look on the bright side of life

edit: " I believe this pen has a custom one of a kind nib which allows for a unique style of penmanship!"

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
