lately i am deeply drawn to these dark/gf-cap combinations of the "51" (a pen which is hard to resist to for me anyway).

also the cedar & midnight blue "51s" look so good in my opinion!

which color combination do you like the most and why?

kind regards:

I'm not an overly big fan of the 51,but the combination of Nassau Green and either a fishscale or

Windowpane(Heritage)cap would look beautiful!

I like the dark red one with a gold cap. I don't have one.

Want One??????

This is probably the darkest Burgundy 51 I have ever seen.

Made in the Argentine Parker factory it sports a perfect gold cap. The pen is so dark is it easy to confuse it with a true Plum 51.

They made two colors of burgundy in Argentina and this is the darker one... an absolutely gorgeous pen. I was lucky to get 2 of each of the burgundy pens with gold and 2 dark green with Lusterloy caps. Am only keeping one of each for my use.

AS for my favorite colors... it would have to be these two...

I'm sorry I don't have a nice pic for you. Someday soon maybe.

My (simple tasted) "Grail" 51 was a Midnight Blue Aero with the GT Lustraloy cap. The Aero gold Park arrow clip to me was a nice refreshing contrasting update to the same two tone cap treatment of the classis Vac BD/Lustraloy cap.

I looked for awhile to find one in good shape. Bob Speer tightened me up. While my pen is in excellent shape, I still like it well enough that some day it'll get it's due Kingly makeover with a refrosted cap and probably a Minuskin retip to B Stub.

Cedar blue with gold lined cap. Yellowstone yellow with gold. My all time favorite color combo on a 51 is plum with a lustraloy cap with gold clip.

I must be boring, but I prefer the classic India Black with Gold Cap

I do wish I had the Plum color as it looks cool

Very sweet basic black set... that is a classy color... I prefer it with sterling or coin silver...

As for Plum, take a look at my site.. they are for sale.

I didn't see any Plum 51s on your site...not sure if I'm looking in the wrong place or what.

DUH!!!... I have not put the boxed sets up on the website yet..

I keep telling myself I need to do that and forgetting....

The boxed set above is for sale... if interested contact me back channel, preferably via email

I had to have a cedar blue...now I have two, one with the older clip/Lustraloy cap and one with the newer clip and 12 kt. gold cap. Both of these combinations are beautiful.

Beyond that, it's hard for me to pick. I kind of "love the one I'm with." The Forest Green aeros are really lovely with the Lustraloy caps, ditto the Burgundy ones. I also have black, teal blue, midnight/navy blue and grey 51s. I guess if I had to pick only two colors, I'd pick cedar blue and forest...

Buckskin is a very cool color of the "rares" and of course Plum...both a bit out of my price range for now...

Christian,

India Black is just a term Parker used for regular old black. It is the only Black they used for the 51 that I am aware of, but I am far from a 51 expert.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
