The best Iroshizuku ink ?

They're all the best! You must get them all! :P

+1. Unfortunately, it is a rather large range and it they aren't exactly cheap either. If I had to pick one, I'd go with tsuki-yo. It's a brighter variation of the usually dull blue-black colour.

Overall performance is excellent, and the bottles attractive. Although I find it difficult to enjoy syo-ro, shin-ryoku, kiri-same, and tsutsuji.

Virtute enim ipsa non tam multi praediti esse quam videri volunt.

They're wonderful inks and very well behanved. I particularly like Ku-Jaku which is bright without being lurid, Tsukiyo is subtle and a real blue-black IMHO, and Fuyusyogun is just plain cool as a blue-grey. They wonderfully encapsulate the subtleness and complexity of a Japanese aesthetic (wow that sounds a bit pretentious, didn't mean to be, just love these inks - my wife saw them and said "why do you buy inks from anyone else?!").

In Europe you can always get them from "Missing-Pen.de"

Mister Rolf Thiel is a great sales-men, and as far as I believe, a member here, at least he read the board, as I know... He has the widest range of inks I know of, more than 600 to 700 in stock all the time. Since the s&h of Iroshizuku and other japanese inks is not for the cheapest, he sells a bottle for around 20 Euros per 50ml, which is about 30 Dollars.

And he is always very helpfull and you can easily communicate in english. He sends packages internationally.

(no affiliblablubb...)

Hope that helps ^_^

Thanks for the link.

I've managed to get my grubby little hands on the whole range and I love asa-gao to bits. I haven't seen a more beautiful blue (I love blue inks :D)

I also quite like syo-ro and fukugawa-newu (from the Tokyo LE range, it's just a soft colour that I think is so understated). I'm not really a fan of tsuki-yo, while I don't mind the colour, it's stained a number of my pens.

My favorites are (in no particular order):

...Edo-Murasaki

Edo-Murasaki must be the special Tokyo ink. I have not seen that for sale. Is it only available in Japan?

Thanks!

Having spent the last few days sampling my new batch of Iroshizuku inks and Sailor Kiwaguru ink I hope these pictures will help provide some reference.

Given that the sun shone for a few minutes today, I attempted to capture some better lighting.

Although this thread is for Iroshizuku ink, in my delivery was the Sailor Nano Kiwagura inks, so I may as well sling these in to the mix, along with a few Sailor Jentle Inks.

That is a VERY cool way to show samples of inks. How exactly did you do the lower, solid part of each sample? Thanks so much for sharing this!

KUSHBABY " That is a VERY cool way to show samples of inks. How exactly did you do the lower, solid part of each sample? Thanks so much for sharing this! "

I used a short flat art brush that I generally use for acrylic paints. I had the card bent over, applied a few strokes with the brush dipped in ink then allowed the cards to dry in an upright position to allow for a little gather of ink and thus shading.

Glad you approved as it did take a bit of time, then the photography. I suppose its all about the journey eh. It was a great few days. Currently tracking a HUGE parcel onroute from Japan with the full range, so I will extend these colour samples when the parcel arrives.

Staining you say? I've tried it in 4 or 5 pens and no such issues thus far :hmm1:

+1 for the Yama-budo. My next choice would be Tsuki-yo, and no staining or bad behavior there either :)

I should buy the Yama budo.

At the moment I loaded my Agatha with the kiri-same and I'm very happy when I write poetry!

moby

great post - so which do you really like? i also use kiwaguro (nano black) a lot and love jentle blue!

out of the iroshizukus i have ku-jaku and tsuyu-kusa - the former being a very nice subtle medium blue depending on which nib i use.

from your samples i'd love to have asa-goa and also the sailor jentle brown looks kind of nice.

what do you think of the new nano black-blue?

Is there any seller that can provide samples of all Iroshizuku inks?

It would be very interesting to try them all and buy full bottle(s) with confidence.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
