twsbi vacuum filling system fountain pen project

speedy

Recommended Posts

I have only one cheap demonstrator with spring loaded cap, and the ink always splatters on the inner cap when I cap or uncap the pen. Is this likely to happen for the vacuum fill pen? If so, I'll prefer a twist cap. In my limited experience, the twist cap also prevents ink from drying out better than the spring loaded cap.

Looking to the pics, the cap seems to be a twist one.

I assumed Speedy was referring to the design of the CLIP.

I thought the same as well, and yes, a twist cap, please. The clip looks better in the green demo, or is it me? A more refined one would be an improvement, but the general looks of the pen are fine. As someone that has followed the original thread for months, let me congratulate you for the effort and knowledge of making an affordable piston filler. Will the nibs have several options (from Xf to BB plus italics?).

RD just confirm to me that with 2/3 filled, the ink volume is about 1.5ml (cc)

That is a very good capacity and is equal to the capacity specified by Pilot for their Custom 823 Vacuum pens. When is this pen expected to hit the market?

It is still too early to say about the on market date, because I want to get everyone involve in this project first... then confirm the final direction for this pen

I like the plunger-vac filling system, and I like the looks of the pen. I think the shape and colors look more modern (less stodgy) than, for example, a Pilot Custom 823. The shape reminds me of my Reform Czar, which is a favorite of mine.

I'd love to see it made with a titanium nib, at least as an option.

I am not capable of making own nib yet, so the choice will be limited, but will have at least M, F, EF to begin with.

When twsbi has larger customer base then we can work on more varity of nibs, or even learn how to make nib by ourselves.

The pen will have twist cap and an inner cap that can prevent spilled ink from coming out. we have learned good experience from Diamond pen project.

From what I see from the pics of the piston filler, you have a transparent cap and a transparent inner cap.

Please make sure the inner cap can be extracted to clean ink trapped between the two caps.

Don't say "it can't happen", because sooner or later it will...

As an example, see this OMAS 360 (you remove the screw holding the clip and the inner cap gets out):

I'm quite peeved off disturbed by this issue (823, black inner cap and transparent cap):

Titanium nibs are available from Bock, I believe. But I suspect a minimum order would be something on the order of. . . 50 identical nibs, perhaps. You'd have to ask them. I have no idea what sort of production volumes you are contemplating, so that's something you'll have to figure out.

I do think it might be time to consider leaving gold behind, especially the way gold prices have been going. Stainless steel nibs are quite good now, unless you want flex -- and if you want to offer flex, then titanium is superb.

Hello Speedy, I am living in Taiwan and am wondering when you might release these and what the price might be in NTD

This pen looks promising, and I would love to have a Taiwanese pen to buy! I will probably buy a couple if the price is right!

The demonstration of the piston filler on your siteis pretty complete and convincing. I hope the vacuum-filler will be as convenient for owner maintenance.

...and yes, when can we get one?

Okay, what I said before? Forget that.

This is a seriously cool-looking pen and I really like one-shot vac fillers.

What I'd really like would be a set of four in red, green, blue, purple, where the blue is very close to what you have, green is Pantone 3145-ish (so teal rather than green per se), red that's somewhat blue (Pantone 208 or 228) and a purple somewhere near pantone 266 or 2607.

The inner cap will be very easy to be removed for any purpose you want; same as Daimond model

On Diamond pen, I bought the nib/filler from Schmidt; I suspect the nib is from Bock, filler by Schmidt. To have twsbi own logo design on nib I need to order min. 5,000 sets per order. I got the first order of 5K, the second order of 5K is no order. I don't think they will sell me 50 nibs unless I use their standard logo.

The PP007 nib is one size larger then the Diamond.

Schmidt nibs just aren't anywhere near as good as Bock's and I've been generally disappointed with them.

I know Edison Pen had smaller orders for gold nibs, but i don't recall if he said how many would be neded for titanium. They are my favorite nibs.

I will not buy any more Schmidt-nibbed pens or steel-nibbed pens (unless the latter are vintage).

Thanks for your support. I am think to target the retail price at around NTD1,500, that's about US$50.

We will try to make this pen same as Diamond, easy for owner to do self maintenance.

I'd definitely buy one at $50. Hell, I might buy two.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
