Hi, thank you for the review. I am a fan (aficionado) of waterman havanna. As I like dark browns i mixed some waterman black into havanna brown. Pure and mixed great inks.

Havana brown is one of those rare combinations of excellence and ready availability - it's cheap and easy to find one of the best inks on the planet. I'm a happy Havana user...

Thanks for reminding me about a superb ink that I haven't had in the rotation lately, Georges.

It's the color that I use in my Vanilla Visconti VG Midi. To my eye, it's the perfect color for the pen.

I have a Lamy 2000 with fine nib and although I don't like Havana as a rule, I wouldn't put anything else in this pen, they are a perfect match.

Good review of a nice ink colour. On my screen this ink seems similar to J. Herbin Cacao du Brésil. I have an old bottle of Waterman brown that labels as 'brown', not 'Havana brown' and the colour is more yellowish than this brown. So I suppose that Waterman changed the formula together with the bottle shape and the label.

Thank you for a great review. Waterman Havana is one of my all time favorite inks. I am currently using it in my medium Lamy Studio and it works great in that pen.

A great review ( thanks for taking the time to do a written one, they are always so much nice and informative) of the classic brown among fountain pen inks. The behavior and color -stunning contrast specially when used on off-white and cream papers- makes it a regal product for fpner's.

Very nice review of a superb ink. I tend to favor blue inks in various shades but really like this shade of brown. I really like Waterman Ink of almost any color.

I just got this ink yesterday before reading the review. :happyberet:

Tawanda, why do you consider the Lamy 2000 and Havana a perfect match?

I like the color and most of the behavior of this ink, but when I tried it the ink would show a greenish tinge when put to paper after a moment of not writing. Just the shortest period of thinking between sentences would result in some separation and green color for the first couple of letters. Have others experienced this behavior?

Thanks for the review. I have been using Havana Brown for some months and really like it. I had tried a brown a couple of years ago, but it was wishy-washy. The Waterman brown lays down a nice rich color which I use for a variety of both business and personal notes to myself and to others. I enjoy the change from my usual Aurora Black and Blue.

There will be no crisis this week. My calendar is already full.

For me, it is THE brown to have. Your review shows that wonderful shading. Thanks.

I use this ink often Often as a review ink for reports at work. It is different enough to make a statement without screaming correction!

Thank you for review. It looks like red brown on my screen. But not even near to Sailor Red-Brown that I bought recently; Sailor is orange, but it is one of the best inks I have.

One of my all-time favorite inks to use with a stub nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
