Size difference

Recommended Posts

I was out in the shop today getting a couple of large pens done.... This style of pen is called the Gentleman and it is a big pen... at least to me... It is also a heavy pen

Well to get to the point... a couple of weeks ago I was asked about the size of custom pens.... I posted two different pens and the measurements...

I decided to really show the difference with this one...

The picture is a Gentleman pen in Blue Coral Alternative Stone with Platinum plated hardware. For a size comparison I picked something virtually all of us can understand, a Pelikan 200....

Nice, but too big and (I suppose) heavy...All those men pens are so very difficult to carry in a shirt pocket...That's why I do not want anything bigger than a pelikan 200/400.

I have to agree about the size and weight..

I have customers that love a big pen like that, so I make them...

Personally, I am most comfortable with my Snorkels, Pelikans and 51s....

It certainly is big, but it's also very beautiful, OldGriz. Nice work!

Hey Griz,

You know those attachments they sell for the big Maglights that turns it into a nightstick. Well if you made one for that pen it could double as a self defence weapon :eureka:

That is one fantastic pen, too big for my taste, but the craftsmanship just blows me away.

Good job that man B)

Beautiful work as usual bud.

Just so you know you need to box it up and send it this way. There is a certain lady here who would wet herself over that one. If you don't sell it bring it to DC.

I wouldn't go that far....

But I do appreciate a nice pen... even a Parker... especially when I can get one at a good price...

Been thinking maybe it is time to even out my collection a bit...

Acquire a few more Parkers to go with the 40+ Sheaffers I have...

Bob,

Griz is in total denial over the Parker thing, he knows he likes them, but just can't get around to admitting he is hooked.................

Well, not as large as some of the Omas limited editions I have seen. But those aren't really for use. This one though is a useable size. I like thick pens, but not heavy.

MMMM, big pen...sorry...

My daily carry is usually either my Sr. Duofold Streamline, or my Big Red...so yeah, I dig rather large, stately pens. Of course I like my "51" too...

Griz, you just made me jump over to your site for a look, and possible a buy in the near future ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
