Fountain Pens, Ink, & Paper in Middle Georgia

Having recently moved from Sydney, Australia, to rural Middle Georgia, I am wondering where people buy their fountain pens (economical to fine), ink, and stationery in person. Of course, I can buy anything off the Internet, but sometimes it's nice to weigh a pen in one's hands or touch a fine piece of paper. I rarely visit Atlanta (a 2.5-3 hour drive), so I'm looking for sources that are truly in the Middle/Central GA area.

I do know that Office Max has Shaeffer calligraphy pens, Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pens, and a Waterman Philias kit. I've looked at two sheets of watermarked 8.5x11 paper at an office supply store in Dublin. I go to Macon about once a week. Would anyone have additional ideas?

By the way, are there any fountain pen clubs active in this area?

The Great Southeastern Pen Show seems so long ago....

Thanks,

Ashland

As a person also living in a rural area I find that the internet is my only answer. One thing you can do is post requests from other FPN member for samples of paper and inks that you'd like to try. It doesn't help with pens but it might keep you from buying a few things you'll regret.

Ouch! From Sydney to rural Middle Georgia. :o

If I may ask, what on earth did you do to deserve such an exile? :P

All kidding aside, I don't think there's much in middle Georgia, but then again I've never ventured into the Macon area. Whenever you head towards civilisation (Atlanta), the place to go is Artlite at 1851 Piedmont Rd. NE in Atlanta. They have a great selection of fountain pens, ink and stationary. It may be a 2-3 hour drive, but it's definitely worth the pilgrimage.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
