Show us your wax seals

There are some lovely topic threads on sealing wax and wax seals in here, but I thought it would be fun if those of us who use wax seals would show photos of the ones we have — a photo display in one thread. :)

Wow! They are beautiful, Rena! I'm afraid I don't have any wax seals or wax stick (they're gorgeous too!) to share :(

Regards,

Soki

I don't have any seals or wax either, but it's only a matter of time. I'll have to make a seal to get what I want, so I'm keeping my eyes open for the proper materials (stone of the correct size/makeup) and once I have that, purchasing some wax will be a quick follow-up.

Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing (and inspiring!)

I don't have an actual seal, but I do occasionally use my little stamp thing to attempt and make seals. xD

Cool. Someday I need to find some wax, which I'm sure isn't hard. The only thing is whenever I seem to find seals they have a holiday theme. :glare:

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

I just started to use sealing wax and and seals. The only seal stamps that I have are initials. I ordered some sealing wax that should be here in a few days and I will post pictures of the finished seals then. I would love to find some antique ones to use also. /Craig

Craig,

Great! I look forward to your pictures! I would like more antique seals too. The middle seal in my photo is supposedly Georgian, but I have no way of authenticating the date other than to acknowledge that it looks old. It is, however, the most difficult to use because I have to remember to apply just a shallow pool of wax or else the rough edges (above the bloodstone seal part) stick to the wax and make a mess when I lift it off after making the impression. Several years ago I passed up the chance to bid on e-bay for a vintage seal out of red carnelian with my actual initials on it. I don't know what was wrong with me that I was feeling so frugal that day, since the opportunity will never come along again, and the seal went for far less than I've paid for any one of my pens... My biggest pen-related regret ever!!

Moo, where does one get a stamp made such as this?

I got mine made in China Town in LA for about 6 dollars or so. That was the price maybe 2 years ago. I reckon it may have gone up a bit, but not too much by now. There are pre-made ones and then there are some that you can get made customised for a couple dollars more (I think about 4 dollars more). They have different styles in terms of the handle too. :) I like my lion/dragon one (I never was able to tell the difference between the lion and the dragon...). There's also a cute little ink pot you can get for it (ceramic/porcelain looking thing) for $2.00USD more.

**ETA: The pre-made ones are typical names like James, Jennifer, Bob, etc. as well as words like, "love," "happiness," and stuff like that. xD Whether or not the pre-made ones are accurate, I do not know... I'm only half Chinese.

I find vintage hard to come by, so most of mine are modern (initials, paw print, stylized sun, &tc). I have been lucky enough to find a few vintage ones, and hope to find more. My understanding is that as seals were used much like a signature, many seals were destroyed when the person passed away. I'm not sure if that is fact, but it would make sense - most of the vintage ones I see are heraldic, or look like they come from government offices.

Vintage, British Victorian, engraved steel:

This appears to be the seal that was in use for the 'Royal (Grammar) School - Salzwedel' as it was in 1918 - until renamed Jahn Gymnasium in 1931, and was likely the precursor to the seal following below:

Staatliches: National - Jahn Gnmnarium: Jahn Gymnasium: Friedrich Ludwig Jahn School - in Salzwedel: Town of Salzwedel

So, this was likely the seal used for the 'National Jahn School in Salzwedel' during the Nazi rule.

(To be honest, I've never used this one to seal anything traveling by mail.)

Here's a seal with my initials that I bought many years ago.

I cannot remember where I got it from, but a Google search reveals several companies that can supply similar seals.

The first task after the pope has died is to destroy his seal ring. So it is prevented that he sings papers after death.

Thanks ena and Pmorin. Rare beauties indeed. Most modern seals are just a letter engraved with a router.

Some of mine. The square seal and the wax seal with KW are my own designs and I engraved the square seal. Poured the wax in a hurry so the wax looks awful.

You guys are making my day! Love to see these! And I'm very impressed, wykpenguin, with your ability to both design and to carve!

More please. :)

Got to get back to the drawing board and go practice carving stone. I made that some years ago.

Well, I guess increasing my risk of silicosis for art isn't that bad. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
