Ugly as sin and writes like a dream, +1-1=0, hence ambivalence.

A pen I only use in shuttered and darkened rooms.

YMMV

Hi,

Not bad at all, but it is not with my personality. I like Rotring. :)

I have a Balium with a XS nib. It's filled exclusively with Herbin's Indien Orange ink, and gets used almost every day at my desk in a day planner. It's a pen I can leave on my desk with my daybook, and not be too concerned about having it stolen or borrowed. Also, it's eye-catching, and gets a few comments from non-FP people. I love mine. :)

Hmmm, interesting...I don't have one, but I like the Lyseum. Seems subtle...

I like my Coridium FP; my Mom found it in a thrift store for a quarter ($0.25 USD) :D

It has an XS (which is a Fine to me) nib on it, and I wanted another Core with an XL nib ( you'd think it was a Broad nib, but it's more like a Medium, I've read) so I ordered a Lysium from a seller on eBay. It's not quite as cheap as what my Mom paid for the Corridium, but I like the way the Core writes, and it is a sturdy take-it-anywhere kind of pen :)

I had to vote "apathetic/neutral" because the Core is, while not patently repulsive like most of Michel Audiard's so-called pens, unquestionably ugly. Yes, it looks like an athletic shoe. They're ugly, too -- whatever happened to plain old "tennies"? Is it really necessary to encase the feet in objects the size of sarcophagi? What did Cro-Magnon Man do, all those millennia ago, before there were Air Jordans?

But I digress. I can't honestly vote "hate it" because the doggone thing writes really nicely. I have a Tanakor with the larger nib in it, and it's one of my best writers.

Interesting that opinion is evenly divided, north and south, with a wide demilitarized zone in between.

I'd call the Core funky rather than ugly. I've gotten favorable comments on mine from teenagers. It's a kid's pen, after all. And they are smooth writers.

Hi,

It is a strange pen with that techy look et al.

I certainly thought that it was weird, but it has a very well designed nib and feed.

I am very new to fountain pens - but I got hooked quickly. Lamy Safari's, Pilot Knight, Pelikan M200, and a Rotring Core. I purchased all but the Core because I like the looks, style, and reviews those pens received. I purchased the core because (1) it was on sale for $12.50, and (2) because it was ugly in the way a dog or cat can be ugly -- so ugly they are cute! Well now that I have been using the pen, I really like writing with it and am going to get another while I can. I no longer think its ugly. Now I think its 'stylish' :P .

Hi,

By the way, the pen is still in production, but in four colours only, Rubidium, Balium, Titanium, and Coridium. The new Core does not have the write-on system with the Orange wing thing that pushes up the cartridge. (My Core had a write on system that did not eject the cartridge completely--just pushed it up a little.) In the section, there are stabiliser fins for the cartridge or converter. The feed stem is also shorter and so is the cartridge pucturing device. You also don't meet a stop when you are unscrewing the barrel. The pen has been redesigned, the grip, feed, and the barrel. The grips are interchangeable within Gen I and Gen II Cores and so are the barrels.

What I don't like though is how unreponsive Parker in the US is. I finally contacted Parker in the UK, and I found that I could buy a few more Core nib sections from my favourite stockists in the UK.

I didn't vote because it would be unfair to pass judgement on a pen I've never written with. Just wanted to say I feel sure that these were left behind by the crew members of a UFO. :D

I have three of those, as well as roller and ballpoint. I LOVE them all, they write excellent, and they look kewl and sporty. I refill my rollerball with fountain pen ink too. Just pull out the front, and put some ink in with syringe.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
