This is a review of Noodler's Operation Overlord Orange ink.

Operation Overlord Orange is a saturated, medium orange ink. I purchased mine through Swisher Pens. (I've matched the images in this review as closely as I can to the original pages, but there are too many variables to assure that you'll see the same colors as I do.)

I've found most of the inks in the V-Mail series to be very well behaved, and this ink is no exception. I used it exclusively for the past week, and it was perfectly well behaved in various pens and on various papers. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Be well.

Thank you for the excellent review. I wonder how it compares with PR Orange Crush, which is appears to resemble.

You were so thorough you left no room for questions! Great review! I liked seeing the different papers. A color comparison with other like colored inks for reference would be the only thing I'd request. Love the shading! Thanks very much for your fine effort.

Any idea how it compares to Apache Sunset, especially for shading? I've looked at other reviews and my wife's bottle, it seems this is very similar, just darker. What do you think?

Looks much like Habanero to me.......?

I was going to ask if anyone could compare it with Habanero. You beat me to it.

Thank you for the review -- I will be interested in comparisons with other orange inks, as others have also noted. This ink looks worth trying.

From the review I have seen here, it seems that Habanero doesn't shade much, at least as compared to Apache Sunset. From the picture above, it seems pretty good, but I'm hoping for a comparison from someone who has tried both (and perhaps Habanero, too).

I have both Habanero and Apache Sunset, and I'm looking at samples of those and of OOO as I write this. The three inks share some similarities, and there are some striking differences as well.

Apache Sunset shades from a yellowish orange to a darker, reddish orange. Operation Overlord Orange (hereafter "OOO") isn't quite as yellow in the lightest areas, and is much more a pure orange in the darker areas. Looking at writing samples from the two of them side-by-side (same paper, both written with medium nibs), the shading of OOO is more subtle, whereas Apache Sunset is much more dramatic.

A page of writing with Habanero impresses me as being more red than OOO. It's lightest areas are slightly darker than the lightest areas of OOO, and it's darkest areas are almost red, versus the pure orange of OOO.

I'll try to put together a comparison page of the three inks and post it into the Scanning forum.

(Thanks very much to those of you who made positive comments about my review. They are greatly appreciated.)

It's also interesting how much darker the ink appears in this review compared with that posted by penguinmaster (here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...owtopic=114889). Could this just e scanner differences? Batch variation? A shaking the bottle issue? I didn't care at all for the color posted by penguinmaster, but am quite taken with the scans posted here.

I put a comparison scan of Operation Overlord Orange, Apache Sunset, and Habanero into the Ink Comparisons, Scans, and Tests forum earlier this evening. It's located here.

The scan makes me want to lick my screen. That color is BEAUTIFUL and reminds me of citrus. :)

Thanks for the scan and review!

Thank you for the review! I hadn't considered orange ink at all, but I think I'll have to get this ink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
