Lamy's quality

I now have 3 Lamys: 2 Al-Stars and 1 yellow Safari. I noticed on their website: lamyusa.com, there are several nice looking ones. Of course, their design is minimalistic and non-traditional style.

I like a couple of them, but am not sure of Lamy's general quality in their other models. Are they consistent in quality all throughout their other non-Safari models?

Thanks.

My first fountain pen was a Lamy Studio - good pen with a few caveats:

1) Thinner than I expected

2) Clip scratches the cap

3) Cap not tight (capped nor posted) - it didn't start this way, just worked itself loose I suppose... I may send it back to get the cap tightened.

I have two Lamy 2000's (regular and stainless steel) - quality is topnotch! I may get another since my wife has claimed one of them for her own.

I have two Lamy ABC school pens that I haven't inked (saving it for my daughter) - but quality seems to be good.

Thinking back, I should've just tried the Safari first (now I have a few of those), then gone straight for the 2000.

That Studio model is slick. I like it. They have one for $75.

They have models that are in the $70 range. That's probably what I'm shooting for. Thanks for your reply. I wish they have a $50 range, like the Pelikans . I just recently purchased a Pelikan M200 and love it.

Below is the link of the model that I'm shooting for.

All my Lamys have been great writers and top quality pens.

Safaris, Vistas, Al Stars, 2000, Personna, and Accent.

I love my 2000.

Except … does anyone else have a problem with the cap slipping off too easily?

I love my Lamy 2000. The Parker "51" and the 2000 are my most used pens. I did have trouble with ink leaking between the makrolon and stainless steel. Lamy fixed it quickly and have had no trouble since then. I love the nib on the 2000. I liked the pen so much, I bought one for my father for Christmas last year and he has had no trouble with it at all. I would definitely purchase another Lamy product.

There is a snap ring/clutch ring in the section that snaps the cap on.

The cap should not loosen.

At least mine never does.

It's nice to know their customer service is great. At tleast there is no fear of owning a broken pen. I realize their design is so much difference than traditional fountain pens. They're unique.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
