Pen Cabinet

Hello All:

Who has a nice pen cabinet (maybe 48 pens) that won't break the bank? Any tibs or website postings would be great. Have a nice evening,

Kevin

You can make your own by getting liners from Gary Lehrer at Gopens.com. A big sheet cost about $1 - $2 and you can cut to size with any drawer cabinet you have.

I can think of lining it inside a red tool cabinet with drawers from Sears.

Also, Pendemonium sells the wooden nice ones for a very reasonable price.

I think the brand is Reed and Barton.

I have a Reed and Barton 20 pen case. Great quality cabinet. The other place to look for is at antique stores, you can sometimes find great cabinets that can be converted to pen cabinets with the addition of liners from Gopens.com

Kinda like the one david issacson posted a picture of a few weeks back.

Get the liners from GoPens.com and use an empty cigar box from a cigar shop.

What do you think of the leather soft case pen holders, I have seen them on e-bay, 12, 24 pens in elastic dividers. seems quite practical for carrying around, especially if you like leather.

Interesting idea with the cigar box ;)

Interesting idea with the cigar box

Here are some of my own creations on this front.

From Honduras, a double-decker that holds 25 for my Sheaffer's and Parkers. . .

From the Dominican Republic, a 14 pen case - these Oliveros boxes are probably the perfect size for a single-layer case - not too deep, not too shallow. A couple layers of felt on top make perfect padding for travel or taking to a pen-club meeting.

For my current selection of inked pens, a double-decker Onyx from the Dominican Republic - the top layer is on an angle.

And this one came with the slots built in - if a little big for pens. With a little padding, it would make a great box for big oversize pens.

And there are a few more in the works  . . .

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

I think these liners are just bare plastic with no felt or suede-like soft cover. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

OK - Gary's liners are the ones with a felt-like cover. They are the same ones I used for the set above. They are available in several different colors, and I think a dark green might go well with some of the cigar boxes as well.

I am interested in purchasing a few of these slotted display trays but the thought of putting my credit card information on this site is disquieting to me. Is there any way to just call Gary?

Thanks for clarifying about the felt-like finish. While green may look nice over wood, I prefer more neutral colors to bring out the pens. I have a dark wood desk valet that I don't use and I am contemplating converting it into a pen box. So the question becomes: grey or tan liner? :D

You have two options. If you have a Discover card, you can generate single use credit card numbers that are valid only for one merchant. The second option is to just mail a check, which is probably what I'll do.

Or you make sure you chose the right bank and you are not liable for any unauthorized purchases. :)

Very cool, I smoke cigars so this is a perfect marriage. How do you prevent the pens from moving around and dropping out of their slots, say when the box is on the move? :eureka:

I added another layer of the slotted trays and placed it upside down with the felt material toward my pens. Then hot-glued the fabric strip that comes with some cigar boxes to it for easier removal. :eureka:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
