Do you feel this picture does this finish justice? Is there a turquoise-ish cast on the pearly parts of the pen as suggested by this picture? I suspect the mis of colors is more complex than suggested by the picture. I am intrigued and thinking about it. What more can anyone say beyond this very nice picture?

Hi Stylo,

Of course it's always difficult to get 100% accuracy in a photo, digital display over a computer screen. Look at Richard Binder's color chip on his website for another (although smaller) image of the Turquoise Fleck. He told me he shot that chip image directly from my pen. I've taken out my pen just now and examined through a loupe while comparing to this photo again. Probably the turquoise shading on the pearl, as you mentioned, is a bit more pronounced on the photo than in hand. But there is some blueish cast to some of the cream/pearl parts (and they lighten towards the center of the chunk) — some more than others; and some of the cream/pearl parts have a golden tone. I'm assuming you are NOT talking about the turquoise "veins" running through the material, but rather the pearl colored chunks.

Overall, I think perhaps the pen has a bit more of a warmer tone in hand — that the cream/pearl chunks are not as light or pale in their centers as they appear in the photo. Aack — so difficult to describe using words. The turquoise veins, and the shimmering chunks (sort of like mica) do indeed appear glowing when held in light, and the pen was in light when I shot the photo. Also, since the chunks are distributed randomly, one side of my pen has more of the deep, reddish brown chunks than the other.

Maybe HennyPenny can take a photo of her Pen for another perspective. Okay now, I've fallen in love with my pen all over again after looking at it through the loupe!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Is there some pattern that determines if the section is black or the same color as the pen?

Jar,

I remember discussing the section color through e-mail when ordering my pen. I don't know whether it was more expensive to have the same material in the section or not. There were a couple other materials I was considering and I know I would have gone with black resin sections on those — it just looked sharp to me. But I preferred matching section on the one I finally chose. It's been 2 years since I got my pen, but I'd imagine the option would be available today still? Maybe other people can chime in on this?

Rena, thanks for the comments. Because of a buying opportunity, I am looking at some of the finishes that include more than two dominant colors, such as turquoise fleck, razor shell, coral green, heather, etc. Not surprisingly, those are probably the hardest to capture in pictures.

Here are some photos for a Dandy in azure with silver trim.

I got it some days ago and have dwelled over if I shall keep it or not - it is stunning, but not my style in colour. However. I wanted to share the photos here.

It IS a beautiful pen and if it wasn't so expensive I'd keep it. But as my funds are not endless (unfortunately) it is not the "optional" Dandy for me. I'll wait for my Claret. Pity that it is not possible to switch trimming and nib between them...

I'm sorry you're not quite taken with it -- I have one and I love it. If I had the budget, I'd buy a backup in that color/trim.

Stylo,

You're smart to ask questions and examine as many photos on the Internet that you can. When you do decide, and then order your pen, and then receive your pen, I hope that your heart will beat wildly. :)

Yes. The Dandy Claret is one of my favourite colour schemes, but I'm not that keen on goldtrim which was the only available setting during the spring sale (how spoiled doesn't that sound...). So when I had the opportunity to buy the Azure with silver trim. I did. A very happy and beautiful pen, but the colours weren't for me personally.

I'm sorry you're not sure... I think it's beautiful.

The colours are really lovely.

My Duro in classic brown with italic F nib arrived, and I like it very much. It is the first modern CS I've owned; I've only had their celluloid and casein pens from the 1930s, and only after I found they had smooth flex nibs.

Instead of the Dinkie that I won, I applied that towards a Dandy in blue lapis, with the same nib, an italic F. Suddenly, I am awash in CS!

I know the feeling. I always seem to find myself looking at photos of Conway Stewarts and making lists of the ones I would like. Unfortunately, they are just too far out of my budget to purchase more than one a year or so. I may be selling off more of my collection in order to fund the CS addiction...I mean hobby :headsmack: .

This will be easy, 'cause Bryant has already taken them! Here is the Classic Brown Duro.

I decided I liked the Classic Claret in Duro instead of the Dinky but it may or may not be too late to change, so it will be a surprise which one I get. The latter will have the following color.

But I will be ecstatic no matter which one I receive! Thank you, Bryant!!

Lovely. Like hard candy toffee. I must say that I believe the Duro suits extremely well in the Classic Brown!

Two snapshots at my longed for Dandy Claret. When I ordered it I thought I'd prefer it with a silver trim, but I must say that the combo gold/claret is stunning. I LOVE this pen.

Now I must write with it. Made the 20th of May - not even a month old...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
