Deccan "Masterpiece" revisited

This post is in continuation of my previous post showing the Masterpiece pen in Chrome trim and Shrujaya's post showing it with gold plated furniture.

After looking at Shrujaya's post, I got on the phone with the Deccan pen stores in Hyderabad to ask them if they had any of those in stock. I was scheduled to visit Hyderabad on work the next week and the folks at Deccan arranged to make some more of these pens. Much to my surprise the pens offered to me were not identical but interesting variations to the basic theme.

Pens from L to R: The GT MP, the new MP in brushed Tiger stripes ebonite, the MP in brushed black ebonite but with a diffrent cap jewel and no dot, and finally the MP that I originally wrote about. (MP is Masterpiece)

The Brushed tiger stripes is even larger than its cousins.

The cap jewel closeup:

Size comparison with a MB 149 in the middle for reference:

The nibs are identical on all the variants and the filling system on all of them is ED.

Comments are welcome.

Cheers!

Hari

This is a dumb question, no doubt, but what does "MP" stand for?

EDIT: I just figured out "MP" stands for Masterpiece. :headsmack: Nice pens, by the way. I love the one in gold trim.

Glad you figured that out. However I have edited my original post to clarify. Thanks!

I think you can't take the tiger eye on a airplane trip, it will be considered a weapon.

Or you can use it to play baseball?

I think I'd prefer the GT one, because of the thinner cap.

Daddy, please no more pens - we need food, clothes, books, DENTISTRY...

Ha Ha, I would not take any of these on an airplane trip. But seriously, I was carrying my 149 this time and I was asked to uncap and write with it by the Airport security. This had happened previously when I was carrying my fat Sanford PhD mechanical pencil. BTW the 149 was flawless in its performance mid air while filling out the feedback form.

Best,

Hari

Thanks for posting about those most unusual (to me) pens.

They are very classy pens and they look stealthy too.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

Hi Hari,

What is the cost of the pen in INR? Is the writing wet and buttery smooth?

Thanks & Regards,

Gampu.

I love the look of the gold band pen.

Thanks for posting about those most unusual (to me) pens.

Thank you Susegad and Anne-sophie, I think most of the folks liked the GT version, however my peronal favorite is the earlier CT bandless model made by Deccan.

<snip> Is the writing wet and buttery smooth?

I have adjusted the flow on my pen to be medium wet, the size 40 nib is very smooth and has some softness due to its large size.

Best,

Hari

oh., this is a very old thread. maybe > 5years old? I have not seen these huge masterpieces being offered again by Deccan and yes, I can say that i have found that the prices have increased yet again during each visit.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
