“Onoto The Pen” large red mottled hard rubber fountain pen, piston filler with an Onoto No. 3 nib and matching RMHR feed6. I believe this is a “Mk II” pen as the cap fits over the barrel and not just the section, as did the earlier Mk1 pens; Mk II pens were introduced after the War in 1920.
The Barrel has a crisp imprint: “Onoto The Pen – De La Rue & Co London”. The long 14ct nib is imprinted “De La Rue Onoto London 3” and is a smooth fine point and quite an expressive writer with some flex. The pen is 5 ¼ inches (13.5cm) closed and fully 7 inches 17.7cm) with the cap posted. Being an ebonite pen, though long it is also very light and well balanced.
Condition: excellent, good colour, no marks on the cap or barrel and crisp imprints. The pen has been restored and fills well. The nib is an elegant writer, smooth, fine but with nice variation in strokes, very enjoyable to use. I just noticed a slight ding in the side of the nib which has not affected the writing and I have not attempted to remove.
